An interesting day at Marshside, Merseyside, today. A Ross's Goose picked up flying in with Pinkfeet was an exciting moment, regardless of its provenance. A juv Hobby was watched catching Odonata over the marsh and a juv Garganey was elusive on the junction pool @birdguides.bsky.social #ukbirding

It was certainly a great moment when we first picked it up among a big skein of Pinkfeet high over the outer marsh, but I guess any association with the other geese will go against its provenance. I remember seeing one with Greylags in Scotland back in 1991, which was eventually accepted.

A visit to Crossens Outer Marsh, Lancs, got off to a good start when a juv White-winged Black Tern appeared over the saltmarsh. While watching this, a Garganey dropped in and an Osprey flew west. At least 40 juv Curlew Sandpipers were also present @birdguides.bsky.social #ukbirding #autumnbirding
