Trains, planes and automobiles. From Weymouth, living in London, working in Birmingham.
I’m sure it’s something to do with restrictions on tunnel alignment - but does anyone know the specific reason why the Central line east and westbound cross west of White City?

Not a fan of the new RA signage at Waterloo. I’ve got good eyesight and find it hard to read from a distance.

@serailway.bsky.social Morning. We’ve just been passed by 2H58 (I think - Networker set going to Charing Cross) which has been graffitied so badly the windows are covered. Are you aware?

In another photo from this week - happened to be in King’s Cross on Monday evening. Hard to remember now how bad it was round here previously with that temporary ticket office structure stuck to the front. Amazing transformation.

Lovely clean Networker entering service at Lee this morning. Very sad these don’t form part of the future plan. Would be good with an interior refresh.

Got the last stamp on my red passport a couple of weeks ago when returning from France. Very sad to see it go. Can’t believe it’s now nearly £100 to get a new passport, big price for mobility.

I think the ORR decision today is good and welcome a bit of competition in the cross-Channel train market. What I can’t understand is why, with GBR coming round the corner, we’re promising this premium route to a private company. Can’t see Richard investing only to have his assets taken back later

Exciting news - going to be something seeing these whizz through North London and Kent.

Eurostar orders first double-decker trains
They would be the first two-level high-speed trains to run through the Channel Tunnel.

One for #FlashbackFriday - Langley station long before it became part of the Elizabeth line. Looks very different to today as, like with many old buildings, someone decided to paint the brickwork 20-30 years ago covering all the decorative stonework.

Great to see the Access for All work at Hither Green progressing bringing much needed accessibility to a busy SE London hub station.

Something a bit hypnotic about escalators.

What’s happening to the Central line fleet? Never seen it looking so bad.

Not much time left for this. Don’t think I’ve got any friends/family with European Union branding remaining.

As a should-have-been engineer and aviator enthusiast I always get quite emotional sat next to one of these. Developed in era of optimism and co-operation with our neighbours it shows that anything is possible.

The Railway 200 #InspriationtTrain was hiding in Moor Street this morning.

Cycled 22 miles around East London today taking in some sights. Used the cable car over the river and the ferry back with a bit of plane spotting at City Airport.

Also, on a transport related note (as is almost everything I post), this was pretty cool - “buses towards Blackheath” on a bus stop north of the river.

Done the SL4 route both ways a couple of times now and really like it. Heading down the A102 at 50mph in lane 3 on a bus is fun.

Bit after the event, but I was at Canary Wharf at the weekend and spotted one of the new DLR trains under test in their “coming soon” wrap. Interesting to see they went for longer cars on a network with very tight gauging. Looking forward to trying them, will be a big improvement I’m sure.

For #FlashbackFriday how about a nice picture of 378 001. Reminded of this when passing New Cross this morning. It was 15 years ago that the new London Overground extension to the East London line opened and 16 years next month since 378s started service.

Tram extension in Birmingham is really taking shape. Lots of work going on along Moor Street Queensway as well with nice new paving going in. In the background the Curzon viaducts stand ready to be connected to the new station.

Tried the new SL4 route at the weekend. Really impressed with the service. BYD bus is very comfortable and trip from Lee to Canary Wharf was just over 30 mins. Great addition to the neighbourhood (and free until next year!)

The normally very good Chiltern Railways having a difficult day. Delays of more than 30 mins but reporting good service / no disruption. Platform displays still showing “on time” 10 minutes after planned departure. Thanks to @realtimetrains.co.uk I could see what was happening.

Morning. If you’re interested in watching the progress of the Little Ships today the majority seem to have AIS transponders and are showing up on Marine Traffic. #OperationDynamo

Question: why do Chiltern run 3 car units (or anything other than 5) between London and Birmingham? This morning’s 06:31 is a 3-car unit meaning it will be crammed over the last few stops. Is it not a waste of a peak path?
May 15, 2025 at 5:27 AM
Refurbed Turbo on the Chiltern this morning. Nice but lighting is a bit harsh for whose who like a nap on the early train.
