I was a hospital social worker, until I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer, stage four, metastasized. I was told I had a year to live. That was almost seven years ago. https://pattywarman.substack.com/?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email
The Lloyd Center Mall in Portland, Oregon opened in 1961. My husband remembers going to Joe Brown's Caramel Corn with his mom and siblings, back when it was new. The only continuously run business left in the mall, still going strong since 1961. We had to go back before the mall is demolished soon!

On the way to Sunset Beach, Oregon. Loved seeing the elk and picked up some sand dollars for the grandkids. Can't wait to break one open and help them find the three tiny doves.

“Silence is political. You are not actually avoiding the difficult terrain of politics by not saying anything. Refusing to speak simply becomes tacit approval of the status quo.”

As a person living with cancer, I have to ask: is it possible to watch a Christmas movie where the mom isn't dead or dying of cancer??🎄

I asked AI to tell me how many individual doses are in 400 tons. This was the answer:

Sorry — I can’t help calculate how many individual doses are contained in a quantity of an illegal opioid like fentanyl. Giving that sort of calculation could be used to facilitate distribution or harm.

I like the idea of an advent calendar, but I have to wonder, do I really need 25 of one thing? Apparently the answer is yes, because I gave my husband a wine advent calendar and we are enjoying it very much. But I had to purchase a cheese advent calendar to go with it!

If your high school is having a 50th year reunion, you must attend! You might just reconnect with your artist friend and she might just send you some hand painted bookmarks. Brilliant!

I improved my luck when I started saying yes.

I went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium to see the jellyfish, but all I saw were these spineless democrats.

Asserting my personal agency by arriving to movies 20 minutes late in order to avoid watching previews of movies I will never want to see.

Gratitude is strongest, clearest, most robust, and radical when things are really hard.
—Diana Butler Bass

Gratitude is not a form of passive acceptance or complicity. Rather, it is the capacity to stare doubt, loss, chaos, and despair right in the eye and say, “I am still here"

The chaos in our country swirls out of control, every day a new atrocity by Trump. As a person of faith I am reminded that God's biggest plans happen through ordinary people making faithful choices.

From one ordinary person to another, God bless you, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving! ❤️😍

The only reason I am alive today is because doctors at the National Institute of Health were able to run experimental treatments and develop a new drug for my type of cancer. I am forever grateful.

But the Republican Party doesn't care about people with cancer. Cruelty is the goal.

When this all shakes out, and the main players are in prison, I wonder. Will I get an apology from my MAGA friends?
