Hello! We are the Perinatal Health and Behaviors Lab at the University of Pittsburgh! Our goal is to improve the psychological, physical and emotional health and wellness of perinatal people through research, education, and training.

Participants will receive up to $225 for completing confidential surveys and interviews about food access, eating, and wellbeing in pregnancy and postpartum. REACH event "Mental Health Matters" on Saturday June 7th 2025 from 4:00 to 6:30pm Eastern Time. The events location is at Iron City Circus  Arts in Pittsburgh, PA. Event Details
Iron City Circus Arts and the Research Equity and Community Health (REACH) Collaborative present a performance art and mental health community event. During this event we will foster a positive space to learn, share mental health research findings, generate ideas that support mental health in our community, and hear from people with lived experience on what helps them thrive. We will feature exciting performances as well as trivia games, Q&A panels, mental health resources, and more! Light refreshments will be provided. While children are welcome, there will be no childcare or programming specifically for children and there may be explicit language used on stage or in performances.

Metered and free parking is available on 21st St, Mary St, Jane St, and other surrounding streets. It is accessible from multiple bus lines that drop off 3 blocks away at 21st St and E Carson St.

The event is free but a ticket is required.

She has had the opportunity to indulge her adventurous side through climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and skydiving over the Pocono mountains. Lastly, Alexa discovered the wonderful world of fantasy as a book genre and building Lego as an adult!

Alexa was accepted to Drexel University College of Medicine and is completing 3rd year clinical rotations and deciding whether to pursue family or internal medicine. She traveled via volunteering to Zanzibar, Tanzania, Oaxaca, Mexico, and for pleasure with friends to cities in France and Spain.
PHAB Lab Alumni Alexa Smith with her dog. Alexa was a research assistant at the PHAB Lab from 2020 to 2021. She majored in Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh.

Since graduating, Eva lived abroad in Spain for a year teaching English at an elementary school. She relocated to Boston and joined Westat as part of their Behavioral Health and Health Policy practice. Her work involves program evaluation, data collection and analysis, and survey development!

Meet our new lab member! Emily is a junior biology major at the University of Pittsburgh and an RA at PHAB Lab! She is from outside Philly. She is pre-dental and hopes to attend dental school after graduating! In her free time, she enjoys painting and spending time with friends, animals, and family!
