Why? So they could hand Chen Olympic gold & Malinin next.

Prior, jumps were nothing & skating skills, transitions etc were everything, in order to hand Lycacek Oly gold.

Chan era in between was slightly more balanced, because no US contender.

If US has no jumper, jumps may become worthless again.

Indeed, I believe the potatocam currently used by the tech panels, are brought to each venue by the ISU, along with the judges' data-input computers etc...

So it should be just a case of bringing more equipment, and more sophisticated.

They could do like speed skating, where an ISU team brings the required gear to the venue, and a van packed with video tech lets them do instant reviews when a judgement needs to be made on whether there was jostling, blade contact, etc.

Or like Ted's livestream team, that go to all the JGP events.

Yes, and given that "AI" machine judging is already in use for gymnastics and has been for some time... it would be no great leap to apply similar systems to figure skating too.

If only ISU had the will to do it. But it seems to me, ISU has no particular interest in fair and accountable judging.

Even an imperfect model would be better than now?

It could at least be accountable, and treat all skaters the same, regardless of nationality, reputation, coach, etc...

Any flaws would be applied equally to all skaters? And every skater would have a chance to deliver what it's looking for?

Yes, and they own vast amounts of video data already - so the required machine-learning could be done without using stolen data. Unlike LLM's /GenAI's.

Although ideally they should start "fresh", using multiple high-speed high-res cameras, instead of the 1 potatocam the tech panels curently use...

If done well, machine judging would be able to spit out reports justifying its every decision vs the rules, and cross referenced with video footage as evidence.

"Accountability". Imagine that...

But it IS different. And also terrible!

Traditional menus/toolbars are 1-D, with evenly sized & spaced items: easy to scan along, til you find what you want.

Ribbons are 2-D, so you have to scan all over the place to find items. Unergonomic, exacerbated by uneven sizes & spacing.

Enshitification.
