I am happy to pay $30 a year for USPS Prime, which delivers mail daily to my home
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

The decision by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to downgrade its recommendations to protect infants from hepatitis B is a dangerous move that will harm children.

Just imagining how much better it would be if ALL news stories about vaccine-preventable illnesses were illustrated with pictures of people with the disease, not pictures of needle injections. If you must show something that people will find scary & unpleasant, make it the disease, not the cure.
I'm so tired of measles.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Show what measles looks like.

There are no clothing machines.

All garments are handmade.

ALL of them.

There is no T-shirt machine. Every $5 shirt I’ve ever purchased was sewn together by a human being who is an expert sewist.

Just thought I’d mention that before tomorrow.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

One of the patterns I've seen in my own research is that once parents make a decision about something (vaccines, breastfeeding, sleep training, screen time, etc.) they often stop looking for relevant news and information, because they don't want to have to question if their decision was wrong.

I'll never forget @stephenshapiro.bsky.social's land acknowledgment in Heidelberg, stating that the University is housed (in part) in buildings stolen from Jews. Obviously not the same thing, but seeing the form deployed in a new context reinforced its original function (at least for me).
my wokest opinion is that land acknowledgements are fine. people knowing a little bit about the land you're on, even if one isn't invested in a land back project, is not particularly worse than the status quo, even if one comes by this info in a way that is somewhat cringe and forced
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

GRE prep costs hundreds of $ and time in studying, taking the GRE costs $, sending the GRE to schools costs $. It's a significant burden to applicants and might actually, according to these data, constrain who tries to get a PhD.

no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, should have to give up their pet bc of this.
