It's reporting on a study based on Australian census data, which finds that arts degrees lead to higher incomes over certificates, and have a better career lifecycle. And- with the Society and Culture category- Political Science has the 4th best income after law and econ.

Very pleased that LERRN @Lerrning has a received a second partnership grant from @SSHRC_CRSH, building a network of 27 organisations and 76 partners. Our goal is to ensure knowledge and expertise of those most affected by displacement is used to inform forced migration research

It would also be more impressive if the US was then doing anything to help with post-conflict reconstruction in any of the conflicts now ending- the current Syrian Humanitarian response plan for instance has only received 10% of requested funds:

This adds pressure on Australia. Jim Chalmers, the Treasurer, noted today it is "a matter of when, not if" but obstacles include "the release of the hostages, making sure that there’s absolutely no role for Hamas." The Canadian model gives Australia a way to require ongoing efforts to address this.

Great to see New York saying yes to a leftist candidate and no to a man who was found to have subjected at least 13 women to ‘sexually hostile work environment.’

And it's a ranked-choice election! Something Australians are very familiar with...

Very recent reports of explosions in Iran, coupled with this post from @Charles_Lister of possible missiles over Northern Iraq, and air raid sirens in Tel Aviv suggests Israel may have launched air strikes on Iran. But information sketchy.

Awful news from the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab x.com/HRL_YaleSPH- they will be shutting down on July 1st. They have been doing leading research on both the deportation campaign in Ukraine and the genocide in Darfur which cannot be easily replaced.

This Time article suggests ICE is now claiming 207,000 people have now been deported, but they would still need to deport another 64,000 by Sept 30 to hit the same number that the Biden administration had in 2024.

So that's why so few of the illegal migrants* arrested actually have criminal records. Why this push? Well, because the Trump administration is behind the Biden administration's numbers from last year. ICE is doing a lot more arrests in the United States, but CBP is doing a lot less at the border:

But ICE can't seem to manage to even give those few hundred food and water (let alone legal representation):

Karoline Leavitt noted that since June 6, "there have been 330 illegal aliens* that have been arrested as part of these riots in Los Angeles" and only 113 (one-third) had prior criminal convictions. That is not a lot of people (*assuming they are all illegal).

Under the proposed Israeli plan, per PM Netanyahu, "Population will be moved, for its own protection." This is a clear violation of international criminal law. Particularly concerning is the idea to move a majority of the population to "an area sterile of Hamas"

And the ABC has declared the election for Labor, and a strong possibility the Peter Dutton loses his own seat of Dickson following Pierre Poilievre in Canada
May 3, 2025 at 10:34 AM
And while Labor’s leading 29-26, only two districts have been declared, including my district of Cunningham which Alison Byrnes seems to have heal easily for the ALP

May 2, 2025 at 1:14 AM
Finally, the Coalition's preferences not surprising list Liberal and Nationals first, then a series of minor parties- notably, the far right Paulien Hanson's One Nation in 4th.

This has been leading to some controversy, especially at the House seat level: www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...
