So many Dr. Beverly Crusher, Ghost Fucker memes. Here's one from the archives.

A glorious morning. Playing grill master for a friend’s annual Bike the Drive bbq and this time adding pulled pork to the mix—got the butt on at 260-270°F at 06:30. Been holding steady since. About to rotate and spritz it for the first time.

Describe a favorite movie in the most misleading way possible.

Decorated civil war general seeks to reunite with his estranged son seeking to dismantle the new political structure.

Wanted to make some grilled chicken last night but the state of the world has made it difficult for me to find motivation to do anything like deal with a charcoal grill. So instead I used the broiler in my oven to “grill” the chicken and veggies for a “chicken souvlaki salad”.

Also, this was the reaction I got from across the house. Must’ve woken up my wife.

Latent powers add a whole new level of strategy to combat. Each traveler has a latent power gauge that fills as they take damage and break enemies. Once full, their latent power can be activated for a unique ability. Castti’s latent power allows her to use her Medicinal Concoctions talent for free.

The combat system receives some incredible updates. Combat in OT1 was impressive. It’s engaging, requiring a player’s attention and some mastery to make it sing. OT2 gave a tuning pass to the class skills, updated character combat talents (Castti & Ochette got big glowups), and added latent powers.

The writing and voice acting are much improved over the original. Which, again, was not bad in OT1. But it’s noticeably smoother writing (partly translation/localization, I’m sure) and all story scenes are fully voiced rather than a quippy audio cue over a larger block of text.

The art is improved with higher resolution, more animated environments; more detailed/higher resolution pixel art for enemies; larger character sprites that are more expressive and have a wider range of animations. It makes them more compelling.

Now, understand that I loved my most recent 100 hours with OT1. The gameplay is incredibly deep and engaging. The art is gorgeous. The storytelling is incredible. (And on a replay I really saw how the eight tales are intertwined; it’s just not spoon fed to you.)

OT2 is SO. MUCH. BETTER.

I’ve recently revisited one of my favorite games: Octopath Traveler. After 100 hours I’m a single achievement away from getting the platinum trophy on PS5. But… the secret boss is such a pain to beat and I’m tired of getting wrecked so I started up Octopath Traveler II again to keep in the OT vibe.

Good for New York. I mean. I don’t want them to close up and eclipse the Frost but I do want New York to do well.

Ummm… who wants to tell Disney that Scott Glenn is a white dude and they probably mean the Denzel & Tony Scott remake?

Loki has to be touching me and my wife. Sylvie has to be touching me. They can’t touch each other without one or the other getting pissy about it. Evenings are a delicate balance in our household.

Sylvie is without a doubt the snuggliest, gentlest, and sweetest dog I have ever met.

Went to my first professional hockey game tonight for the Minnesota Frost home opener. They won the inaugural Walter Cup back in June and hoisted the first ever champion banner in Excel Energy Center (home of the Minnesota Wild).
