We typically go for articles as the wider application these days. Geography review is also good.

Thank you for coming Alice! And right back you to you and Alex. That was such a well needed insight into Detroit.

I am putting the final touches on my session on AI for next week's @geographicalassoc.bsky.social #GAConf25. It will focus on the NEA, what preventative measures teachers could take to ensure ethical work from their cohorts, and some general T&L reflections. Hope to see you there!

I have also added in this piece on the controversy in Bristol over consultation plans to reduce bin services and the public response.

Makes me better that it's going to be a little more engaging and relevant to students this year! 2/2

Teaching the role of local government in regeneration is often a dry part in Changing Places (especially after looking at high-profile national projects) so I was very pleased yesterday to receive a visual guide on my council's spending overview for this year in the post. 1/2

So we now have a couple of examples for each: North Korea as a country switched off to globalisation from a political & economic perspective and the role of colonialism and other factors in creating a detachment from globalisation for locations within countries, such as Niger.
ploguey.bsky.social
This is how we differentiate between the two terms.
Even on reflection, I can see how embargoes could be perceived as 'detached from' as they can sometimes be short-term and isolate countries from certain, but not all, globalisation flows.
ploguey.bsky.social
Oracy is a strength of my department so my students engaged with it well, giving some good insights into differences in the wordplay and coming up with some clear examples of places that could be perceived as 'switched off' and 'detached from'.
ploguey.bsky.social
I still like the term 'switched off' because of its application to many aspects of the spec, and, honestly, I have been teaching that terminology for over a decade now, so I will be unlikely to make an immediate swap, so I had my classes discuss the differences between the terms
