A dude shouts at Loki "What was important to me-- what gave my life meaning-- wasn't the ability to build, but to create! What good is my power-- your gift-- if it costs me my imagination?" Loki is pissy. Cyclops points out "What of those of us who already have powers? We'll be no better off than before. We'll be the only ones left with imagination. We'll be the dreamers in a world that can't". Loki gets even pissier. Cyclops shouts "You don't force people to accept gifts, mister! To have any meaning, they've got to be as freely taken as given". Loki pisses back "We gods have always known what is best for thee and thine, Cyclops. Why canst thou not trust me?!" Then Cyclops eye blasts him while shouting "Because Loki is known throughout creation-- as the god of lies!"

Took a break from comics to fool around with game sprite designs. This is a gemfarer in four variations of league dress. The final idea would be a fat and thin design for both masculine and feminine bodies for each variation. So 16 sprites for League dress. Which is a lot.

Making all the 3D models visible at once always makes me want to do a full page montage. I guess that's the trick: make panels to organize the actions and then delete them.

Finally finished an illustration for the Gemfarers landing page. Also the first time I've drawn these characters as anything more than sketches. Thanks to @amandalafrenais.com for help designing these characters long ago.

Went down to the village and apparently Brooke Shields and Amalia Williamson are filming "You're Killing me" outside my usual place. Look what they did to my baby. They turned it into Maine.
The door, with a sign for "The Mermaid's Mug" A generic looking weathered wood sign out front. American flag banners are hanging on the railings. Inside, Brooke and Amalia' chairs sit in front of the ice cream station. The menu board is now a generic coffee shop menu with no prices after the dollar sign. The counter, which now sports a "Rise and shine it's coffee time" sign.

Okay, I managed to finish sketching out these jerks. I guess I need to ink it to make it presentable. Also, this exercise made me realize I didn't actually have designs for a bunch of these guys. Or any concept at all.

A small cafe, Grizzly Chai, sits on a street corner. Muffled speech is heard from the darkened windows. A petite person approaches the door from the inside and locks it. They appear to be the source of the muffled speech. Inside the cafe, the person walks down the narrow aisle between the tables and the counter. They have short hair and a handlebar mustache, and are wearing suspenders. They are singing the second half of the Cheers theme. "Roll out of bead, Mr. Coffee's dead". They go behind the counter and fiddle with the register while continuing the song. "The morning's looking bright" Their work done, they approach a table of large, bearded men and a large, sleeping dog in the back corner, still singing. "And your shrink ran off to Europe, and didn't even write" On the table is a square box. One of the men, a tall, man with wide shoulders and a fat belly looks at his cell phone and asks the person, "Are you ready, Leland? I texted Lafcadio". Another man, a very fat and round man with glasses leans down to the sleeping dog and whispers, "Wake up, Beowoof". The third man, a tall and very fat bald man in suspenders just pats his belly and looks at Leland. Leland continues singing as they stand behind the tall and very fat bald man with their hands on his shoulders. "And your husband wants to be a girl". The man responds, "You singing in the third person, sweets?" Leland continues singing, but is drowned out by the tall man with wide shoulders, who looks done with this. "Brock, please tell your boy-wife to get moving". The fat, round man adds, "You would make a cute girl, Leland". The group leaves the cafe by the side door. Leland locks it behind them. It is late fall outside, and the trees are bare. Around the corner, by the front of the cafe, some people go about their day. The man with wide shoulders says "Don't forget dessert". Brock, the bald man, who is holding the cardboard box, says "Got them right here. Got the cake too". The fat, round man with glasses asks the dog, "Do you want to see your new friend, Bewoof?" As the group continues down the sidewalk alongside the building, the fat man with glasses asks the wide-shouldered man "Griff, can we get a puppy too?", to wich Griff replies, "No, Hank". Brock, with his free arm around Leland's waist, says, "I might need to replace this one soon". Leland replies, "No one wants a fat old man, Brock", to which Brock retorts, "You did". The group walks around the corner and behind the building. There is a narrow sidewalk along the back of the building, and a driveway. Across the driveway is an empty lot surrounded by a chain-link fence. The group continues their discussion. "Does Lafcadio have enough space for a puppy?" Hank asks. "Well, he does have a big apartment," Brock adds. "It's not that big for him," says Leland. Griff points out "Hank and Beowoof take up most of my bed". A pair of rats are eating seeds in the lot behind the chain-link fence as the group tromps by. "Have you seen Lafcadio's bed?" someone asks. One of the rats scurries away from the fence in a panic. "It's enormous. Like as big as a room". Someone replies, "Well he's a big, room-sized guy". The group continues on their way. The two rats scurry off the edge of the page to safety. Brock asks Leland, "But my bed is plenty big for you, right, pup?" Just right, Papa Bear", Leland responds. The group arrives at the double doors on the far end of the building. Griff knocks. "Brock lets you sleep on the bed?" Hank asks. "If they've been good", Brock replies. "I'm never good", Leland adds. The door opens. An enormous arm emerges from the shadows, grasping the top of the already high door frame. A voice says, "Hello, boys! Come in!" An enormous man emerges from the doorway. At nine feet tall, he has to duck to use the eight-foot door. The man is very fat, and dressed in a sweater and dress pants. He has a goatee and a mop of hair with two small horns emerging from his forehead. His ears are slightly pointed. He waves and looks down at the assembled group and says, "The birthday boy is inside!"

Page 1 Leland sings while closing up the cafe, then approaches the guys. The cafe is called Grizzly Chai, but I forgot to put the sign anywhere. Page 2 Everyone leaves the cafe out of the side door and walks down the street. Page 3 The guys walk around back, past an empty lot with some rats frolicking. They knock on the door to a ground-level apartment and a very large man starts to emerge. Page 4 Lafcadio, the nine foot tall fairy ohre greets the guys.

Turns out the latest street view was two months before the comic takes place, and American Underground by Brent Askari was being advertised.

And I have a Muslim woman waiting at the crosswalk looking directly at it.

That's one way to set the time period.
