Bent Maps
You have tried
to shrink us
Time
and time again
400 years later
you still don't realize
that we will rise
That we are wider
than your boundaries
We are louder
than your fear and
the Bent Maps
this court has approved
Forgetting
that silenced people
don't fade
they erupt.

We walk

On high alert,
Watching
To see who else
Gets choked by
The system

Her dreadlocks flow
free and untamed,
a crown
grown from storm
and sun, and the history
living inside each loc.
Regal in her walk
like a lioness
glowing
beneath the pride
of the ancestors.
She is beauty.
She is her blackness.
She is strength.
