Surely we already traded away climate action for national unity when Trudeau bought TransMountain?

One lesson that might be drawn from this is that such bargains are never fully concluded, and a higher & higher price will be demanded each time the unity cage is rattled 🤔

I'm not blaming Lukaszuk or his FC team. I'm attempting to warn the vast majority of Albertans who are not active separatists that this isn't the victory they think it is, and that the game being played isn't the one they think they are in.

This is a hollow victory: I've lived in a country so divided & observed the *generations* of work to heal those fractures.

Given the scenes @ the UCP AGM, we are heading down a dangerous path. But trying to beat them at their own game is a strategy that may have equally dangerous consequences. 4/

In the best case scenario, we "win" our right to remain in Canada, but entrench deep and bitter divisions between Albertans and the rest of Canada, between Remainders and Leavers, between settler Albertans and Indigenous nations, between friends, neighbours, and family members.

Any referendum on Alberta's place in Confederation leaves us incredibly vulnerable to this kind of discourse manipulation, or outright malfeasance. 2/

Fun fact about Oberg: between his stints in cabinet & the AHS appointment, he tried to set up a for-profit hospital on the Westbank FN in BC, thinking it was not subject to the CHA. His company eventually got sued into oblivion by investors for being shady, so no surprises to anyone on any point.
