Also very cool- support for rat models of schizophrenia risk from @LaurenHarms2: male rats exposed to Scz risk factors, including maternal immune activation & adolescent cannabinoid exposure, had reductions in mismatch responses, a potential biomarker for Scz #2023SPR @therealspr.bsky.social

Logan Brewer shares evidence for Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats as a rodent model of ADHD, including an inattentive phenotype- during EEG, rats show lower P1 & P1-N1 amplitudes to auditory tones, suggesting deficits in attention that map onto human behavior #2023SPR @therealspr.bsky.social

Always interesting to see research bridging the gap between animal & human models- Jennie Gardner shares that physical fitness is related to higher hippocampal volume & fluid intelligence in rodents & humans- fitness may reduce some negative effects of aging #2023SPR @therealspr.bsky.social

Rounding out this symposium, @AlinaKoppold emphasized the need for advances in the measurement of early adversity given large heterogeneity between existing EA measures, culture gaps, & high complexity of this phenomenon- very cool to see this highlighted at #2023SPR @therealspr.bsky.social

Dr. Iffland also shared results that peer victimization was associated w/ enhanced physiological responses to negative and neutral social stimuli, suggesting hypervigilance to social threat- interesting to see how this may contribute to risk for depression #2023SPR @therealspr.bsky.social

Very cool therapeutic conclusions from Dr. Goldstein’s talk- tDCS reduces craving, and can be combined with cognitive reappraisal and other treatment strategies to enhance recovery for addiction. #2023SPR @therealspr.bsky.social

Dr. Goldstein shows that we can use speech patterns to classify current addiction/craving, as well as longitudinally predict abstinence, craving, & withdrawal. The language model outperforms other common longitudinal models of drug use and addiction! #2023SPR @therealspr.bsky.social

People with addiction disproportionately look @ unpleasant images & this predicts later drug use. There is also a mismatch between choice and one’s awareness of choice, indicating reduced self-awareness in addiction - really exciting clinical implications! #2023SPR @therealspr.bsky.social
