This rhetoric is really no different than his first term; his inaugural address was pretty apocalyptic. It’s necessary to keep Rs agitated and onboard.
People everywhere are suffering mightly because of R governance. The only way people wake up to their depravity is by affecting their material well being. Politics is tough; choices get made every day that help and hurt people. We need to play the long game.
I certainly can fathom that but if Ds keep saving Rs from themselves Rs will keep getting elected and continue to harm everyone. Our best chance is to let people see how depraved Rs are.
What does this mean? Blue states have no recourse whatsoever. How does the constitutional order come unglued when one set of states is subject to another with no redress?
You assume Ds will do something about it if they ever gain power again. They won’t. It will be accounting for W all over again; ie we will be told to “move on”.
It has always failed us. Mainstream press are glorified stenographers. They offer no critical thinking and thus both sides everything. It’s enshrined in their ethos. Peter Baker doesn’t even vote lol.
There is another reason Klein can’t seem to grapple with this moment, and which he hasn’t acknowledged: privilege. He can trade away abortion/trans rights bc he won’t be affected by either. He can’t comprehend rights can be taken away bc he’s lived in a world built entirely around cis white men.
Anyone who is aware of at least one day of Trump, not to mention the 40 plus years of our experience with him, knows he walks back virtually every deal he makes.
He seemed completely agog at the notion that social progress isn’t always linear. He has never known any adversity. Has never known a time when he didn’t have the full suite of rights/privileges available to a cis white man. Pretty shocking considering degree to which he claims to be so empathetic.
When he bemoans lack of compromise in politics he fails to note that the one party responsible for that is Republicans beginning with W (with us or against us) through Obama (one term president) etc.
