It's been like 15 years since my course in the regional variants of English, and I'm pretty sure I have retained virtually none of it, but isn't his accent working class?

It's not to defend Ed at all, just to be clear. To me S2 Ed is an absolute monster and I mourn S1 Ed, who was so full of childlike wonder and just wanted soft things. But the show has a weird ass relationship with physical violence imo, cause it is very inconsistent with how such violence is framed.

100%, I am pretty much a S2 Ed hater, so I fully agree with you. But the show *sort of* codes physical violence as something that just comes with the territory of being a pirate. Like, we are supposed to see violence as warranted at times among pirates. And the knives were cut out of the final edit.

Black comedy, and its close relative satire, make fun of systems of power. They NEVER make fun of the victims. The former has been used by artists as a tool against oppression and inequality for centuries. The latter is literally just bullying.

That's why I mosty go for audio drama lately. Since podcasts are relatively easy to make and difficult to monetize, people do them out of passion and there's no CEO cutting the budget halfway. Plus, audio drama as a medium is super queer.

Also. You know what REALLY makes me want to scream and/or throw up? The fact that Con had to go to all these conventions and simile at the fans and pretend everything was fine for like a year, knowing that a part of the fandom will end up very disappointed. And that part was HIS fans in particular.

And it's not burnout of writer's block because I can write other things without a problem. I know it may sound absurd, but I literally am in an abusive relationship with this show and its fandom, and it all started with this scene, because it was here that the tone really shifted for me.

Big same. This show was SO important to me. I still feel bitterly betrayed and it fucking sucks, because it made me even more cynical and distrustful in real life than I was before. Plus, I really want to keep writing in this fandom but I literally can't lately.

I think I only tolerate S2 Stede because no matter how shitty he behaves he is still better than S2 Ed, who is a fucking monster getting a free pass after subjecting the entire crew to prolonged mental and physical abuse up to and including attempted mass murder 🙃

Which is kinda funny cause I have a 40k of a crossover fic with one of my favourite podcasts written which only needs like 2k more to be done but I may need to admit I don’t have it in me to finish that. I may need to let go and just delete all of this at some point if I want to be free.

Looking back at my experience, being in this fandom was one of the worst experiences in my entire life and I don’t think I want to have anything to do with a queer show written by a straight dude and starring two other straight dudes as the main couple. Just... yuck.

Yeah, so... I ended up not writing anything this year. And I kept wondering why throughout, cause it wasn’t like I lacked time or energy. I spent three months ACTIVELY not writing anything for this event. And then I realized that I simply don’t want to have anything to do with this show anymore.
