Interesting new study looking at close to 200,000 US adults over 30 years to see how a low carb diet affects the risk of type 2 diabetes. The conclusion was it is protective only if it uses plant-based protein, healthy fats, and high quality carbs. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

Heading back to Sydney from Canberra I came armed with a letter from my endo to prevent being scanned but didn't need it. This time a pat down without issue.

Think insulin resistance is a type 2 thing? It isn't. Type 1s are also insulin resistant, relative to non-diabetics. Previous studies suggest the cause is insulin running around the body, compared to non-diabetics where most of it gets cleared by the liver.

The multistage chart for type 1 diabetes. Please note that if you only test positive for 1 autoantibody you are unlikely to progress to later stage type 1. There is a lot of misinformation on social media about this aspect.

I might have published this before but these are the phases for drug development which goes some of the way of explaining the cost and time it takes to get medications to market, for the sake of safety and efficacy.

Just been watching a couple of clinicians talk about their experiences in the US with inhaled insulin. Super quick, no need for meal pre-bolus. Also may be useful on exercise days for T1D as an alternative to AID/MDI to minimise insulin on board (TI = Inhaled Insulin)

I'm quite the fan of vaccines and, if you're not, good luck with that.

Interesting presentation on allergies. Introducing egg and peanut in the diet of babies, who have a genetic predisposition to allergy, as they start solids, led to a significant reduction in allergy development (cohort 1 = no intro, cohort 2 = intro).

An example of cherry-picking correlations to come to an erroneous conclusion.

My HbA1c journey since LADA diagnosis. Initially 9.6% I went super-strict and the HbA1c went down to 5.3% and led to mild EWDR (your eyes don't like big HbA1c drops).
The bump at 2022 was the end of my insulin-free honeymoon.
I'm now at 5.4% i.e. back to the HbA1c post-diagnosis
