The pieces are made from the same material as the Grey Wolf sculpture and possibly used to create art such as the Geometric Painting Sculpture. But certain specially made implements. Read more about Prehistoric art of Wirral👀📖➡️ prehistoricwirral.com/prehistoric-...

🪨🎨Staying with the theme of companion pieces, these two grey limestone implements are thought to be applicators of yellow ocrhe, with which they are stained on their left sides. Used to mark designs on human skin and/or animal hides. Ritual/ceremonial use.

"Rachel Reeves unblocked a development of 20,000 homes that were being held up by a rare snail, after being approached by a developer with whom she said, 'we have a good relationship'

Not only stupid and ignorant, but crooked with it

Indefensible

🪙💍What does the current exhibition 'Treasure: History Unearthed' at the Museum of Liverpool and the Portable Antiquities Scheme really reveal to us? prehistoricwirral.com/treasure-rev...

I very much believe that. It's cultural terrorism.

If 'legal' metal detectorists find nothing of importance but broken bits, why do they keep doing it?! Clearly, a rich black market trade in artefacts. I think the illegal metal detecting and artefact selling is akin to drug dealing. It has and always will exist.
prehistoricwirral.bsky.social
Not sure how it will be solved. Museum of Liverpool currently has 'Treasure: History Unearthed Exhibition' of treasure found by metal detecting. Just advertising to people what is available to them and encourage illegal metal detecting, which locally has just exploded within the past year.

To ancient farmers it would have been a blessing for allowing more time to harvest ahead of the cold Winter. Maybe the Neolithic stone ‘sun discs’ above, were also ‘moon discs’ equally important to their crops and way of life.

🌕Tonight is a #Huntersmoon or a #HarvestMoon supermoon as it the full moon nearest the Autumn Equinox. Named from a time when people were more atune and reliant on nature. It creates extra light for longer for farmers working outdoors to gather their crops.

🪨🎨Placed the prehistoric art on the website from Wirral within a timeline to give it some context. Quite a nice collection from the very first artists to inhabit the region and create. Upper Palaeolithic to Neolithic prehistoricwirral.com/prehistoric-...

Yes. Perhaps the right stone wasn't available. Or maybe the artist had an idea in mind that could only be adequately represented in clay. They are rare and unique pieces.
prehistoricwirral.bsky.social
The method of creation was by using naturally different coloured and stained clays (with red ochre/cinnabar) to form the pieces. Then air-hardened, possibly buried in a ritual context that helped to petrify and preserve them.

🪨🎨🦁Found together at a ritual site. Companion pieces: two Palaeolithic clay sculptures, the Cave Lion and an Abstract Sculpture.

🪨🎨Prehistoric sculpture found with the Cave Lion and made in a similar way, possibly the same artist. This abstract shape is designed to stand up right. It is formed from black & yellow clay and clay stained with red ochre or cinnabar.
