The number can be verified by going through the congressional record on Senate.gov, a public service website paid for by American taxpayer dollars. Additionally, we know of at least one researcher, Keira Havens, who has been going through the Congressional Record to find these numbers.

The intro to "A Guide to Unanimous Consent," written by @senategabe. Following the title, it reads: The United States Senate is highly unusual for a legislative body. Among the world's wealthy democracies, it is the most powerful by far in terms of the degree of power it gives the minority. Senate rules are extremely difficult to change. Even a law passed by the United States Congress through standard procedure would not be sufficient to change the rules. The Constitution instead gives the power for the Senate to determine its own rules. In order to change a rule in the Senate, this requires the support of two thirds of the Senators (67 out of 100 if all are present). Because of this complexity, rules are almost never changed. Rather than do so, senators regularly ask for every senator to support temporarily bypassing normal procedure so that things can be done in a faster and in a more comfortable manner. This process is called "unanimous consent."

[Karen] DePaepe, who oversaw the department's phone system, had called the mayor to try to talk him out of replacing the popular chief. She wanted to tell him the situation was not that simple. It was DePaepe who discovered a mistakenly recorded phone line and, she says, heard white police officers making racist comments. She said in an interview with The Associated Press that she reported what she heard to the chieef, and the recording continued. Buttigieg—who's now competing for the Democratic nomination for president—never called her back. When DePaepe's phone finally rang, she says, it was the young mayor's chief of staff, who told her she, too, had to go. Text reads: STEPHANIE It sounds like the women's contribution is erased from public memory. JERRY Even worse than erased, I think, is villified. The interesection there is with the historical fact that the war was lost and so Americans went looking for reasons why the war was lost which turned inward to look for scapegoats for the loss of the war. Culturally, the scapegoat became the feminization of American culture. We, the Americans, lost the war because we had turned soft. We lost the war because we had become too encumbered by welfare. Our men had become feminized by the women's movement. There was this whole paranoia and vilifying of the 'feminism' within the culture. People like Joan Baez and Jane Fonda became like lightning rods for the anti anti-war movement. The loss got put at the feet of home front betrayal and that we lost the war because of what happened at home. Women were the main targets of that. Part of the general backlash against the women's movement and against the feminist movement was because of that.

Share valuations based on past earnings were the most stretched since the dotcom bubble 25 years ago, though looked less so based on investors' expectations for future profits. 🧶 Crochet projects have fallen off while I struggle to knit anything! anything at all! I am merely trying to knit a dishcloth ffs!

But I did complete a scrap yarn placemat. I just like to have something underneath the teapot to catch drips and protect the countertop. It doesn't have to be elegant.

A deeply pathetic Washington Post spam email inviting users to "Ask the Post AI," which they then claim is "Built on facts. Powered by conversation." (Note that the first sentence is literally false and the second is nonsensical. Conversing with AI does not "power" it.) Smaller type below this explains that "Ask the Post AI is fueled by trusted reporting and your curiosity. Where will your next question take you?" Below all this, lastly, a button is labeled "Start your conversation."

LA, conversely, has a vibrancy to it, there's a real struggle going on here. That's partially the product of our ethnic mix, partly our size, and partly our culture. In any case, it keeps me sharper, keeps me aware that the fight isn't for a good sentence or plaudits from your friends, but for real change.
