What is the best way to make a fake-red kite for a Charlie Brown musical, which is easy to control and not a faff to get on and off stage? Helium tried and abandoned as worked in concept but terrible in actual use.

@Colman If you wanted to dip further back Tacitus cites the rules of hospitality in one of his books about who could stay and what you had to provide them. Again, all euro-centre/scandi stuff though.

@Colman "Ye olde good inn guide : a Tudor traveller's guide to the nation's finest taverns" is another great book, there's some serious content, but I'd imagine everyone will recommend it, it's quite well known - it's up on Archive.org
