A decline in funding for the HIV response could result in millions of preventable new infections and deaths, with up to 120,000 of these deaths affecting children.

International cooperation is essential to sustain the advances we’ve made in HIV prevention, testing, and treatment.

10 million potential new HIV infections by 2030; 3 million potential more deaths, including 120,000 children, due to HIV-related causes by 2030. This could be the impact of HIV funding cuts.

#DEI , women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, disability rights, global & domestic public health are under attack and being censored in the US.

Let’s remember the phenomenon of ‘social contagion’ -the concept that thoughts 💭 can be as contagious as viruses 🦠 and keep committing to celebrating #DEI 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✊🏿♿️

Celebrating Women's History
Month
'Stories of everyday sexism and sexual harassment appear almost daily in the news because sexism and harassment continue to be perpetrated in the workplace with depressing frequency.
That's why celebrating women who speak up and beat a better path for those who follow them continues to be relevant.'

Re-suppression post CAB LA PrEP 083 #CROI2025
9/44 had INSTI resistance before ART

6/6 people suppressed on INSTIs (VL less than / equal to 50 c/ML)

15/16 on other ART

5 further participants from other oral regimens switched to INSTIs afterwards and maintained suppression where data available.

Very strong data from the PILLAR study LA CAB PrEP #CROI2025 60% were cis BiPOC men and were 6% trans men

•201 people
•0 transmissions
•High retention and coverage
•22% had not taken PrEP in past 3/12
profchloeorkin.bsky.social
Brazilian CAB PrEP cohort #CROI2025
•genXpert test at baseline
•diverse cohort
•86% chose CAB LA
•CAB adherence very high
•PREP coverage much higher than oral PrEP
•no incident infections on CAB
•6% did not persist on CAB
• 4% switched away due to side effects
profchloeorkin.bsky.social
Very strong data on LA CAB PrEP from Kaiser Permanente large US real world cohort #CROI2025:

•141 received LA CAB

✅ WHO does not impose lockdowns or policies on countries. It does not have the authority to do this and isn't trying to get it.

Only governments can make those decisions.

Know the facts ⬇️

Open label arm of #mpox STOMP trial (people with severe disease/HIV/ pregnant/exfoliative skin) with lab confirmed mpox
• 122 participants
•43% PLWH
•no statistical differences in response or viral clearance

Optimising on demand TDF/FTC in Cis & trans women:
•drug levels & tissue effectiveness of PrEP > in rectal than vaginal tissue (FGT)+ last much longer
•authors found four days on demand more effective than three days
•2-2-2-2 dose effective in 94%
•2-2-2-1 better than 2-2-1
profchloeorkin.bsky.social
ARV session part 2:

•nucleocapsid resistance may be an important piece of the puzzle of INSTI resistance
•NC mutations alone decrease DTG susceptibility 2-3 fold
•Integrase and NC mutations combined have significantly more phenotypic resistance (4 fold)
profchloeorkin.bsky.social
ARV session highlights #CROI2025:
•Once yrly LEN dose tolerable with good PK
•VH499 (capsid inhibitor) with LA potential led to rapid resistance at lowest dose
•VH184 3rd gen INSTI appears potent against multiple mutations
•ZAB/TAB/LEN-1 breakthru VF (low LEN levels & single bNAb susceptibility)

National datasets with data or guidelines on gender identity and sexuality have been removed off CDC (centre for disease control ) government websites in recent months. I am here to listen to science on vaccines at a time when high profile meetings on flu strains have been cancelled/ postponed.
profchloeorkin.bsky.social
Unlike federally employed US scientists I have been able to travel here(they are subject to a travel ban). I am able to present data that reports on gender identity (this is banned for government employees as part of the war on ‘woke’ which prevents all research on transgender people and GAHT).

Post from #CROI2025 San Francisco:

I have been re-posting recently to amplify voices of US colleagues on the war on science and public health that is taking place in the US and the cuts to public funding for PEPFAR HIV programmes supporting treatment and HIV prevention for millions worldwide.

Let’s all keep fighting for equity diversity and inclusion, for a better understanding of intersectionality. Let’s remember that the playing field is not level for all women to succeed.
