Some kyanite can have red fluorescence, so it can be red AND blue. This specimen comes from Møre og Romsdal, Norway. Top photo under white light, bottom photo under 365nm ultraviolet light (longwave UV). This specimen is currently listed on ebay (not my auction).

It's probably the edge (or crop-and-fill hiding the edge) of the top of the West Terrace, the colonnade at the right of this photo. The West Terrace connects the main White House (behind the photographer) to the West Wing (straight ahead).

*That* was the water he "opened up... pretty strongly". Nowhere near the Pacific Northwest states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, but still not connected to Los Angeles water. Consult the graphic for relative positions.

Those lakes, Kaweah and Success, are about a third of the way up from the bottom of California, and are north of Los Angeles. Despite looking close to Los Angeles on this scale, there are no waterways that connect the drainage of these lakes to the Los Angeles area.

Were systems in place to prevent harm and to rapidly deal with the aftermath? Were they effective?
Social media post by user thisgrievinglife: I lost a child in a school shooting (Sandy Hook) in 2012 and then 90% of her things in a flood in 2024. It took lives. It came suddenly. People lost homes. We have still not recovered. Both are political. In normal times I would write an op-ed, but since we don't have real outlets any more, listen to me. The are political in the sense that legislation can do two things: 1) Work on the side of prevention (use evidence based public health approaches for gun safety, weather alerts, climate safety measures, roadway infrastructure, weather education, etc.) 2) Support robust systems of care after tragedy. FEMA is a care network. It needs funding. Red cross, etc. Also: Flooding is not covered by private insurance. You many not believe in climate change, but insurance companies absolutely do.
