It takes me three subways and an AirTrain to get to JFK - or a subway, a commuter rail and AirTrain - and yet I still prefer that to paying for a car.

YESSSSS!!!!

Also, I hate to tell you this, but you are definitely not a fraud.

I’m wondering if with Apple in particular it’s actually better to buy this weekend since they have deals and thus earn less per purchase. It’s different than the other listed stores in that if you want, say, a new iPhone, you can’t just get it from a local business instead.

We make fun of it while we watch it. But the Broadway performances are fun, and so is the music from the 90s. (So much music from the 90s)

grumble-grumble Christian hegemony, grumble-grumble...

A story from my parents: Second night of Passover. Family seder. The meat (roast beef?) was sitting on the counter unattended. The dog found it... and then it was on the floor instead. Apparently, people decided they were satisfied with the leftover turkey from Seder #1 that night.

My family has given up on candied yams, but now we incorporate the yams into a pan of roasted root vegetables. I think it’s chopped up carrots, yams, turnips, parsnips, and red onion. Toss in olive oil and spices (I forget which) and roast. Can also include beets if you’re not allergic like I am.

I am sitting at the Apple Store as I type this. They are repairing my 6-year-old iPhone that I thought I would need to replace today. The current phone needs a new display, but otherwise, it still works fine. Replacing it would feel wasteful. (Also, yay AppleCare!)

Yay!

Ah, the downside to nearly all of my stories being available online for free… guess I’ll have to wait until they open to originals.

I mean, that's what I do when I have it... but then I end up with nails that are only partly covered with polish... which is even worse.
November 23, 2025 at 6:35 PM
Also, some of us just don't like nail polish. (Like it's a layer of STUFF. On top of my NAILS. Why would I want that?)

Totally understandable! It’s a terrible situation to be in. I hope she’s able to find another source of money besides the GFM.

Has she checked with people at the school to see if there are any other aid sources they can direct her to? (I ask this as someone who donates to the dean's emergency fund - I think the school may have some money available for situations like this if she asks the right people.)

But… but it’s not a donut!

(Also, it was great seeing you at the reading last night.)

In case it’s useful, the soy free one I found were the Nestle Tollhouse Allergen Free. (Soy isn’t an issue for me, but those happened to be the dairy free ones I found at one point.)
November 18, 2025 at 8:08 PM
I am laughing a little at regular chocolate chips having dairy. Because keeping kosher means a lot of dairy free baking (for dessert after meat meals) so my default chocolate chips are dairy free! (But I think a lot of those have soy in them.)

It looks like this happened a number of years ago and is not actual news. (The comments on the post have more info.)

The one on the right is kiki because it's going to hurt more when it hits someone. (Which makes the one on the left bouba. It's gentler.)

I have learned to stand on the puddle-free part of the elevator floor. (Though I’m not sure what I would do if the puddle covered the whole floor. I haven’t encountered that.)
