can't think of anything more likely to put people off cinema than that numbnuts Letterboxd promo that asks (in gratingly insincere American voice) "Do you *love* MOVIES??" and ends "Join Letterboxd today!" sounding lobotomised throughout.

DOCTOR WHO is 62 years old today. Hard to pick a favourite serial/story (I watched it religiously from 1976 to 2010) but a recent revisit of the wildly ambitious, enduringly controversial WARRIORS' GATE (January 1981) confirmed that it's a classic of television sci-fi.

62nd anniversary of the Kennedy assassination, which is ONE focus of Edwin "Bud" Shrake's terrific 1972 novel STRANGE PEACHES. Author, steeped in numerous strata of Dallas society, was pals with the star stripper at Jack Ruby's nightclub!
