There’s a lot of confusion of social media. In my opinion, social media outgrew the definition of social media. TikTok, Instagram, and other similar platforms have become merchant ecosystems for small businesses and local communities. Is everything in these platforms age appropriate? Absolutely not.

From being a panel to moderating one, we’ve come full circle. Tonight’s Agenda Alexandria was a dense topic: broadband. Something that enables everything else, but isn’t necessarily seen (yet) as essential. Tonight’s conversation was possible thanks to a superb panel of professionals.

Yesterday Mayor @justindotnet.bsky.social and I celebrated Catharine Rice after a decade of service on the City’s Commission on Information Technology. Catharine has been instrumental in pushing towards access and digital equity in our community.

Tonight is one of those evenings where I’m reminded of how humbled I am to have the opportunity to be part of the list of Agenda Alexandria past chairs. Mentors, friends, and individuals who care passionately about our community in Alexandria, VA.
