Paul Mobbs: Rambler; Activist; Film-maker; Author; Researcher; Deep Ecologist; Camp cook; but none of the subsequent parameters in that list exists without the influence of the first.
Disable wifi... as you can't do that in settings these days this is most easily done with a 4lb lump hammer.

I tried to talk to him privately about that -- pointing out the exact nature of the dodgy nuclear industry research he was unwittingly quoting back in 2011 -- but he never got back to me, and hasn't since.

Apparently it's a hang-over from the writer's strike last year. Work's still a bit thin so the advertizer's have come calling while A-listers are stuck for something to do.

This is a complex problem, but contemporary environmentalism's delusional beliefs in technology have corrupted its message with neoliberal tropes (e.g. Green New Deal), which do not stand up to statistical interrogation -- as I've tried to tell you for 15 years, but you won't listen.

I agree, the film's overly-long and doesn't succinctly make a case, but you can't complain when you get trapped within your own bourgeois sensibilities at time index 1h 50min.

In your self-appointed role you do not accept criticism, so to see you caught-out (again!) is quite satisfying.

Today Packington Hall is overshadowed by one of Britain's largest 'landraising' landfill sites, near the junction of two motorways.

I agree in principle, but not that film :-/

I have the art-house version of that... physical media is just so comforting/cheap!

I was actually 'a hacker' at that time, and I have to say that though technically an awful film (as reviewed in season 1 of 'Mr Robot') the vibes were great! ;-)

I'm waiting for the modern-day reboot of "It's a Wonderful Life" where the Bailey Building & Loan just gets a bailout instead of having to rely on 'Commie' community-based mutual aid for survival.

Scandinavian and especially Eastern European languages are so annoying to type on the standard English keyboard :-(

And in Welsh, some of the accented characters don't even exist!

In Britain austerity and deindustrialization since 2010 have saved us from some dicey problems with both power generation and grid capacity. The problem is that most of the new investment just announced here is going towards gas network upgrades, and very little towards the power grid.

In some of my work I use the term "mechanomorphism": Human activity has ceased to simply adore the utilitarian power of technology, and increasingly human behaviour emulates technological systems in order to more closely work around their functional limitations -- making humans more machine-like.

Of the 400 or so people I follow on Youtube quite a few of the "political" ones have been mentioning falling views over last few months. E.g. Prince Shakur just discovered the concept of 'shadow banning' and how that's likely affecting their stats:

"In an ever-changing, incomprehensible, world the masses had reached the point where they would, at the same time, believe everything and nothing, think that everything is possible and that nothing was true."

I recommend Eco to newbies just dipping their toes in the cesspool, or Griffin for those wading, but for those who really want to dive in still I recommend Arendt's 'The Origins of Totalitarianism'. I read that in the mid-80s: A nice thought experiment, but when UKIP came along I finally understood.

The whole point about fanaticism -- even those who describe themselves as supporting 'technological progress' -- is that they are not rational; and ("on a long enough time-line") those who lack rationality will always be brought low by believing their own lies.
