A porcelain platter, thin but strong. The glaze - a deep black that erupts into silvery flecks - forms when iron blooms in the heat of high firing. A process that leaves no two pieces exactly the same. Organic.

The lesson of this pitcher is never be afraid. So easy to do the same thing, the glazes you know will operate in the same way. I don't often go "glib and cavalier" on a big pitcher - but I did this time. And it made all the difference!

Microcrystalline glazes strike our fancy. We use multiple hand formulated glazes to create the eutectics and fire at Cone 9. These here have a fun patina.

Microcrystalline glazes strike our fancy. We use multiple hand formulated glazes to create the eutectics and fire at Cone 9. These here have a fun patina.

Pottery is arguable the oldest industry. As a result of its many centuries of knowledge and development explored, it tends to not be so easily accessible for the new potter to find great success. So much to learn just to come to the beginning.
