In high school English a loud, indescribable noise startled the class. Our teacher, without missing a beat, went, “Please ignore the rhinoceros in the hallway.” ANYWAY, that line’s been echoing in my head so much lately it might as well be my mantra.

So I’ve listened to enough “Reporter Reads” stories on the NYT Audio app that I can confidently tell you that you don’t actually need to hear the story because the reporter has just spoiled everything entirely in the intro. Why @nytimes.com ???
