Happy first day after radiation! I just wanted to share, though, that my cancer journey is far from over. It was 95 days from diagnosis to refining the bell, but now it’s going to be frequent scans for the foreseeable future and medication for 5-10 years.

I knit! A lot. 😆 These are the three shawls I’ve made since my cancer diagnosis at the end of May.

A GIANT 3/4 square shawl in four colors. The center is a textured stitch in gray, followed by wide colored stripes in teal, peach, and purple, and then a garter gray border and peach icord bindoff. A long rectangular shawl knit on the bias using a 10 mini skein pack called “Starry Night.” One end is white with speckled of yellow, and it changes to blues until it hits solid dark blue at the other end. A brilliant orange shawl wrapped around a mannequin and secured with a fancy shawl pin. The shawl is textured with knit and purl stitches and edged with a ruffle.

Radiation side effect are kicking my butt, but I spent some more time with Van Gogh. (Did you know that you keep up the creams and ointments for two weeks after your last treatment because side effects can continue or even get worse after you’re “done”? Now you do!)

Pic from earlier today - surgery is over and I’m home! Initial reports say he got the whole tumor 🥳 but we’re waiting on more test results to be sure and figure out what the next treatment steps are.

The Joji and Co knitting bags sell out super fast but I’m so glad I caught this one at the last drop.

This book is FASCINATING. If you’ve read or seen Into Thin Air, this is where you learn how things got to that point in the first place. I’ve made it up to 1995 and you know I’m on the edge of my seat.

In case you worried I was neglecting my knitting …
The Hawkesbury Wrap by Laura Aylor, knit in Hazel Knits Cadence in Carnelian. It’s a bottom-up triangular wrap that starts with a textured ruffle, moves to a zigzag pattern for the body, and repeats the original texture in the collar. Mine is swirled around a dressmaker’s dummy in front of the woods, secured with a brooch from JUL designs.
