Mama to 4 (5 with new DIL!), overrun with cats, dogs, chickens. I teach chemistry and research the teaching and learning of chemistry with CER. I scroll and read/learn a lot.

Any posts/reposts reflect my own opinion, no one else's.
Turkeys are done! Left is Cajun seasoned and oven roasted, right is smoked (and not burned; the picture is misleading!)

The dogs are on alert. For what, they aren't quite sure.

My husband is just fantastic at pictures. The monarchs haven't left yet. I need to print these pictures and hang them in my walls for peace. 🥰 🌱 #gardening #NTexas

The monarchs are very happy with my flowers right now. I probably have 30+ enjoying my mystic spires salvia, mistflower, and agastache! #NTexas #gardening 🌱

September 1 - fall is here! 😂 (Ignore the fact that in North Texas, temps are in the upper 80s and lower 90s.)

I think some pruning is in order, but isn't September the wrong time to do that? It gets full sun, we've had a bunch of rain recently, but I used a watering bag every other week(ish) during the dry summer. Fungal issues, maybe?

Cucumbers and okra, it never fails. I swear I checked all the okra plants yesterday, where was this one hiding?!

I have a Great Pyrenees-hound mix. How do we fancy that up? Great Pyrehund? 😁

🌱 It's too hot to plant anything now, and we are in the "let's just survive the summer" part of the year. Fall veggies are in and covered with shade cloth, native plants are doing their thing, so what do I do? Start planning for more beds. Cardboard and mulch time! #gardening #NTexas

Zoomed in from the end of my deck... It's beautiful to watch, in any weather. It's inaccessible at the moment because our bridge got knocked cattywampus in the storms we had last month.

It's rare that I can get all five of them in one picture, but I'm definitely a dog person. 😁

🌱 Cucumbers are hiding from me. 🤦‍♀️ Apple for scale. #gardening #NTexas

Question for #gardening feed, specifically those that attempt pumpkin vines in a raised bed: how big is your raised bed, does it contain the vines, and what do you do to keep them contained, if not?

Context: raised bed that is 3'x6', wrapped in chicken wire to keep chickens and dogs out. 🌱 #NTexas

Today's chore was beginning to move two giant piles of wood chips out of the drainage ditch they had to be dropped off in 😬 to the spots where the mulch will do the most good. I'm about 1/8 through the piles. 😐

Besides the mosquitos 🙄, it's the time of year for the best evenings in North Texas right now.

🌱 The front garden bed, which I spend hours watching due to the hummingbirds, regular birds, butterflies, bees, and other flying things. It brings me peace.

Okay 🌱, onion question. This is only my second year growing onions. I know I'm supposed to wait until the leaves flop over and begin to yellow before pulling. One or two of the onions have done so, but these aren't ready to harvest yet, right? #gardening #NTexas

🌱 I think it's time to thin the cucumbers, but I really don't wanna. 😭 #gardening #NTexas

Look, I grew stuff! 🌱 Sugar snap peas. Should I leave them on a little longer before harvesting? My hand for scale. #gardening #NTexas

Baby chicks on a field trip to the great outdoors! 🌱🐥

For the first time, I'm growing bush beans (Blue Lake 274) and sugar snap peas. If you zoom in, you can see the bush beans that have broken the surface! I'm excited about these, and fingers crossed it goes well! 🌱 #gardening #NTexas

I jumped the gun a teeny bit, but went ahead and put my 'maters and peppers in the ground.

It's the time of year that I can have a fire outside. It's chilly enough that the fire feels good, but I'm not melting or freezing. ☺️ These nights are good nights. I'm listening to music from when I was in high school, reading a book on my phone, ignoring the disaster of the world around me.

In the words of my husband's grandmother, "if you want perfection, go next door." Two of the six beds are moved and assembled, waiting to be filled! 🌱

Come on babies, just hang on until Saturday.
