Why are the current religions with gods always portraying that god as good, righteous, and having humans' best interest in mind? Why arent there more religions where the god is cruel, unjust, and just wants to see humans suffer? Where eternal torture isnt based on our actions but promised/guaranteed regardless of what we do for the sole enjoyment of the god?

r/Religion post from Djas-Rastefrit. Question for Jews: why do you follow rabbinic Judaism instead of the Bete Israel Judaism? It has always been interesting to me the existence of a pre Talmud Judaism that checked off every criterion of second temple faith. I was reading Kaplans works and it's interesting how this foundational community is so little spoken about. Shouldn't the truth be measured not by survival alone but by fidelity to the original commandments? What principle legitimizes Rabbinic Judaism to dismiss a community that never abandoned the Temple covenant?
