I gave mine a good scrub with a toothbrush, toothpick, pin, all soaked in iso alcohol. Whenever I put the lithium grease on the drive made a horrible grinding sound and seized up. The silicone oil has been the only lube that has actually worked.

I bought some White Lithium Grease as suggested by some Brainiacs on Reddit and it totally jammed/gummed up the drive. I suspect British Lithium Grease is different to American Grease

Update: It worked remarkably well, as its plastic moving against metal in the worm gear drive, silicone was the best choice. I had originally used some oil but was warned it might degrade the plastic and wear off, so hopefully the silicone lasts

Update update: SNES now has totally new capacitors, including a whopping 1000uF capacitor on its new Voltage Regulator to help with the infamous snes 'white line'

She's alive, healthy, and with a new region free CIC chip can play every game ever made for the SNES

No I plugged the wrong cable into the AV port and shorted it (totally unrelated to capacitors) and blew the easily blowable snes fuse to protect the console
