i think my problem is that i don’t have a solid voice for one of the main antagonists yet, and he shows up in chapter two.

i’m going to try to do more world building i think, then take another crack at it.

there are a lot of other smaller reasons too but to quote nil, “i won’t bore you with the details.”

he’s inspired by her but puts in the work *himself* to change for the better and healthier, which is important. we love a npc who thinks for himself.

basically i love a story of redemption, of the person changing behind the monstrous mask, of growth and development for good.

i won’t go too in-depth because no one wants to see that. the long and short of it is that i love nil’s *journey*. when we meet him he’s a guy hunting bandits just to feel something. because of aloy, he’s able to find something *better* in machine racing.

i love a story where someone who could be a monster has more layers and depth to them, and it turns out they aren’t “bad.” they aren’t evil. they might be a little odd, a little twisted, a little misguided, but they turn out to be a ride or die for the protagonist.

in horizon, that’s nil.

idk if i can sufficiently answer that question nonny lmao.

there are certain stories that speak to me more than others. certain character archetypes that draw my attention. and in the case of romance, certain dynamics that trigger the dopamine.

in the case of nil, he is someone seeking atonement.
