A word of hope from today’s Advent reading:

“A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

Yet another way that my evangelical siblings objectively changed recently.

1. Increasingly ok with cruelty and calling it Christianity.

2. Hypocritical on Clinton’s failures vs. Trump’s.

3. Didn’t start a panic about Trump as the Antichrist.

4. Didn’t start a panic about Mr. Beast as Antichrist.
i am not a christian but i have no idea why there isn't some big panic about a guy called "mr. beast" amassing tremendous amounts of fame and influence by literally getting people to do dangerous and degrading things

I finished Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 last week, and I have to be honest…

Clair sure is pretty obscure. I never did find her.

I’m the parent of an autistic kid. What CDC is doing here is offensive.

It’s offensive to me. It says his autism is the result of my ignoring evidence.

It’s offensive to my kid. It says there’s something wrong with him (there’s not) and it would be better to risk literal death than be autistic.
Initially, some moms of autistic kids eagerly accepted vaccine lies, because that way they could reject the "refrigerator mother" hypothesis, which blamed autism on "cold" mothering.

Now, those same tired vaccine lies will likely be used to blame moms who choose to vaccinate their kids.

We're not really talking enough about how the tariff reversals on fruits and nuts and spices is an admission by Trump that his entire economic program is a miserable failure.

My parents: "You were such a good, conservative boy. What radicalized you?"

Me: *sings* "There are noooo cats in America..."
It’s hard to believe but there was a cartoon about an immigrant mouse and it was seen as totally fine and not controversial and not woke because it was an aspirational and nice thing about America that people could come here and find a better life

So, for those of you didn’t grow up playing halo in your college dorm, the flood is a mutant zombie parasite threatening humanity that players eradicate by any means necessary.

The United States government just invoked it in an ad for IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT.

So yeah, ethnic cleansing territory.

This is awful.
The Trump administration is restricting the number of refugees admitted annually to the United States to 7,500 and they will mostly be white South Africans, a dramatic drop announced Thursday that effectively suspends America’s traditional role as a haven for those fleeing war and persecution.

I hope someday we defeat fascism and in the far future, No Kings Day is celebrated as a federal holiday, and little children leave out dance mixtapes and cookies for the Resistance Frog, who leaves pocket Constitutions in their shoes.

This is going back a bit, but I was always a fan of Leonardo da Vinci. He was a man of many talents, including an artist and inventor.

Not American enough, you might say? Well, he did dream up the tank and the helicopter, so that’s… pretty American.

Hot take: pastors who claim to preach the Truth (capital T) from the pulpit ought to be the most obsessively fact-checky critics of *every* claim their own sermons, including references to history, science, & politics. If your history is fast & loose, I expect your use of the Bible is too.

With DoD now taking on the less euphemistic title of Dept of War, may I also suggest:

- Dept of Propaganda (form. Education)
- Dept of Revenge & Secrets (form. Justice)
- Dept of Fad Diets and Autism Elimination (form. HHS)
- Dept of Minority Abuse (form. DHS)
- Dept of Subservience (form. State)

1. Lindsey Ellis returning to YouTube.
2. Lindsey Ellis specifically welcoming David French to the Resistance.

So uh… a warm welcome to both of you, I guess? *raises coffee mug in a toast*
