Dog-lover. Currently without doggo, so I play with food, but fetch just isn’t the same anymore. Inhaling petrichor.

Tough garden decision to make: This bed was dedicated to raspberries for the last 4 yrs. I ❤️ raspberries during the few wks they’re in season, but it’s essentially lost real estate for the rest of the year. No plans to get another bed + no intention/place to move them to in-ground. Keep or not? 😵‍💫

Am planning a little #bikepacking trip that will be more #plasticfree. Will pack these. I tried one; it’s not bad at all, just different.

Ah. So you’re looking for a lighter content (still in the reading realm?). While I may not have specific titles to recommend, I borrowed a huge pile of artsy library books – anything that provided fresh images + ideas that was unfamiliar - when I felt overwhemed recently. Different brain fodder. 🤞

Whoops, methinks I got overexcited about starting seeds and sowed my sunflowers waaay too soon. I don’t think I can maintain these pretties for the next few months at the rate they are growing. I sowed them just 1.5 wks ago. Rechecking my 2024 garden journal… I didn’t sow them until late April! 😆

Decided just to sow seeds this weekend, in the garden and in my brain (with all those library books). Need to service my mtb before the next ride.

Where my brain is going this weekend. And sowing seeds. And hitting the trails via mtb. What’s on deck for you?

Sunny garden warmth-seeker. A tribble’s mini-me.

Feel-good garden moments, just because:
Yuzu sapling + rosemary that made it through another coastal BC winter. Still anticipating late-winter cold snaps. In the coldframe: new growth on over-wintered beets and leeks, and a Camellia sinensis (tea) plant that I vowed to nurse to health.

Not sure why the Cambridge Skeptics thing showed up on my timeline - am I attuned to something important? Because why else would I put the 'UFO Abduction' Worst-Case-Scenario tip in my handmade 2025 planner and recently share the @xcld.bsky.social comic? 😁😅 The tip's the same: verbal resistance! 👍

FYI, this scenario would totally be me. I'm usually pretty quiet until something grabs my attention/interest. Not trying to be annoying, but this is how my brain is wired, even if the questions are all in my head. I see now that it could save my life. 😆

That time I was petsitting somewhere far away and obtained a local library card, thanks to reciprocal lending agreements. Anyway, still have a pile of library art books to enjoy over the long weekend. 🇨🇦

New growth on the poinsettas. Am not about to chuck them, so now I’ve got to learn how to care for them year-round…

Without preamble, I'm treating ultra-processed foods (UPFs) as a proxy for the global scenarios playing out w/ real interconnected repercussions. I view UPFs as the narcissists, charming manipulators, climate deniers, etc. in our lives w/ their gaslighting + disinformation. What do I mean?

Lining up a visual and brain feast for the weekend. Can you tell what's making things tick for me at the moment? Quirky visuals and concepts, new learning, a peek into different fields. It's like opening a mental window for fresh air. Branch out from any mental and energy spirals wherever you can.

Having delayed on finishing the 2nd sleeve for the past yr, I'm going to relax + frog the whole thing w/ zero regret. Will re-knit in a different pattern. That's totally ok and I'm looking forward to a "new" project. 😁 Weekend sorted w/ art books and #Knitting!

First influx of art books from the library for my hungry eyes and brain. A mish-mash of fresh visuals and ideas! I want creative ballast to counter a growing anticipatory grief.

Just thinking of stuff on today’s run.

From the shores of a dark sky urban park in BC a couple of years ago. It was a warm-ish autumn day segueing into a bearably brisk night. The bike ride back in the dark was soothing.

A couple of brighter notes, then.
1) Yuja-cha is almost ready. Today, it ended up in an unexpected place... my coffee. Just a touch. And it was very nice!
2) I put a hold on a bunch of library books about art. Decided to feed my brain some fresh kinds of colour, texture, ideas, and concepts.

Politics aside, I'm, likewise, resorting to this (below). It's no way to live, however, and, in the face of worsening climate crises and a looming pandemic looking to piggy-back on the current one (yes, it's still on-going), I'm compelled to rethink where to direct my energy in my work.

A friend who does not ferment or garden much has asked me for a recipe to make gochujang and for perilla seeds to grow this year. Another friend is thinking of fermenting, too, so I look forward to their healthy futures! Cha-ching! If you ferment and/or garden, then this is a reason to celebrate.

Browned butter makes everything tastier. Velvety soft and spongey inside. It would do better in a different loaf pan, I think. Delicious!
