Death threats can be inappropriate and wrong AND aimed at a person who’s doing legit harm to the trans community. Both things can be true.

I think anyone paying attention should understand why the trans community is so concerned about a potential transphobe being welcome here.

And maybe, by harassment, they’re referring to Singal allegedly receiving death threats. Now I don’t think death threats are a good thing to do (unless aimed at legit nazis), but this CEO seems to be making the mistake of thinking trans ppl are a cohesive community all doing the same thing.

I dunno. Maybe I’m just talking out of my ass.

But I think the ignorance is astounding. This kind of aggravated reaction when trans ppl raise concern about something is only understandable if they’re completely uninformed about the horrifying danger trans ppl are in right now.

Singal may or may not be a transphobe. I have no experience with him.

But there IS a gross pattern on this and many social media sites of no one taking trans ppl seriously when we raise concerns about hate speech aimed at us. We KNOW what it looks like.

Especially when, if cis people want to learn about the stories of trans folks and detransitioners, they can just…talk to one of us? Like there’s numerous prominent trans journalists.

But, more relevant to the Bluesky problem, I rly wish cis ppl would take us seriously when we ask for protection.

I’ve never read Singal’s articles and tbh don’t rly want to. I’ve had enough of cis ppl’s utter ignorance. “I’m just asking questions and being fair to both sides” is just a shitty excuse to validate the current transphobic climate. At best, it’s thoughtless. At worse it’s deliberately harmful.

I’m lucky enough not to have had much interaction with Singal’s media. For my own mental health I’ve blocked and filtered out most news.

But I will say, I’m exhausted by how cis ppl with no close trans relations are allowed to just say whatever and be taken seriously.
