Yeah they had to be careful but I bet they tried to sneak in anything to remind people of the movies too since they were still cashing in on the release. An opening with Galadriel narrating for instance. I Finished A Video Game has a great retrospective on every LOTR game and the licensing battles.

It came out after the first movie but before the second. The whole history of LOTR game publishing is very neat actually since the success of the movie sparked a war between book licensed and movie licensed games competing. And due to copyright laws they couldn't use too much from either.

Fellowship of the Ring is a guilty pleasure of mine. Fascinating to see a book-licensed take on Fellowship. It honestly has a super strong art-style that is still obviously Middle Earth but not like Peter Jackson's. Funny enough it is less accurate to the book than the movie haha, but very fun imo.

Halfway through you crash land on an uncharted planet. You get out of the wreckage of the ship. A fireball suddenly hits you and your crew. The camera pans over, it's the cast of the hit game: Dragon Age: Veilguard. Rest of the game is Rook and co doing a sequel story to Veilguard with sci-fi tech.

Gayer than you thought with art like this? Haha. But hell yeah! This game has been on my watchlist for a bit. I will try and pick it up soon. Queer art in China has been booming the last decade. Danmei especially with stuff like MDZS & TGCF. Even getting live action adaptations like the Untamed.

The idea for the artwork itself was Kinlaur at the end of the main quest on Red Mountain having defeated Dagoth Ur and almost collapsing from both the exhaustion of the battle and also relief as he reaches for the Ring of Azura floating in the air.
