Papa on a bicycle. Retired engineer.
I voted for the qualified candidate for president, not the unqualified, twice impeached, convicted felon out on bail.
Cat dad and cat papa.
Life at the beach is good.
51 years ago today I took delivery of my brand new European market spec 1974 Norton 850 Interstate MK III. It was definitely a simpler time. No rider aids, ABS, traction control or electric start. No heated grips or seat or EFI, EMU. Just basic slide cabs and a kick starter.

The blue one my wife gave me on our first Christmas when we were dating. The one without a band my parents bought me when I was a little kid. The pocket watch is from my great grandfather on my dad’s side. Or great great. I don’t remember anymore. The rubber one came from work as a bonus. It’s dead

The current state of the western US and the current authoritarian regime thinks the real danger is their pretend emergency in DC.

Last week I hit my goal of 400km on the bicycle. I finished off the week on Sunday with a club ride with OCW & OCSR. That last day started off cool and overcast and ended hot and clear.

If you want to get a real appreciation for a heat dome try riding a motorcycle from the middle of Iowa to the beach in Southern California. The temperature never dropped below 100°F until I was three miles from the ocean.

Bicycles are worth the effort, expense and time. Riding a fast bike well is a skill that pays dividends in smiles memories and fitness.
My Pinarello F7 is a Time Machine transporting me back forty years into a Saturday team ride or peloton on a Sunday. Singing tires and dancing on the pedals. Magic

Cafe’ ride yesterday. Japanese coffee roaster on my route. This will become habit forming. Coffee and Pinarello.

Rest day, no cycling so bike wash and maintenance. Swap the chain for freshly waxed and even cleaned up the boots. The tongues of the shoes were nearly black from wet winter rides and a few long and deep enough water crossings.
Everything ready to get back out riding tomorrow.

A nice ride today that began with the club then after a donut and coffee at JD Flannel I rode enough more to get a bit over 100km in to nail down my first gran fondo for June. The Pinarello F7 is amazing. Really enjoying this purchase from Velo Pasadena.

Just about the last ride for the month. Put me over 6,000km for the year so far. I’ll end the month tomorrow with a group ride with the club.

Out for a very warm ride today. Saw near 90°F. Quite warm for us this time of year.
I dug out the oldest club jersey I still have and wore it. Columbine Cycle Club from 1984. It’s a bit baggy on me and the pocket top elastic is dead. The body is a good bit longer than I remember.

April showers it seems have in fact led to May flowers.
And Donald Trump is still a convicted felon.

Just saw this on a car today and thought some folks might need to take note.
This for y’all in that GOP House and Senate.

The ride was about five and a half hours. Wind, clouds and full sun. A little bit of everything.

Almost.

Yesterday for Earth Day some friends and I rode trains and our bicycles. We pedaled around 114 km. Rode trains from Santa Monica back to San Juan Capistrano. Four trains in all for two of us. Great fun and riding.

Ended last weeks riding with a gran fondo. Finished with 585 km and 1,456m climbing across 23 hours 20 minutes. Hoping to do well this week though I know I’ll be doing less distance.

Rode my bicycle again today 103 miles. Have not done that in decades.
