This has hit the mainstream. My bldg’s doorman and handyman, two 50ish lifelong NYers who read the NY Post and I wouldn’t have pegged as politically engaged, were chatting this week in the lobby about Grijalva, Roberts, and the shutdown with a nearly Jake Sherman level of political horserace nuance
My outrage over Johnson's refusal to seat Grijalva grows daily and I think of dire ways Democrats can pay Republicans back for this when they are next in power.

saying “swastikas are bad” is extremely low hanging fruit for the mayor of a city that’s home to a million jews
The pro-Palestine group Within Our Lifetime has already decided that Zohran Mamdani has sold out the pro-Palestine cause... by condemning swastikas drawn on a Jewish day school in Brooklyn. forward.com/culture/7822...
Mamdani's first statement on antisemitism as mayor-elect got some weird pushback
After someone spraypainted a swastika on a yeshiva, Zohran Mamdani condemned antisemitism. Somehow, this generated conspiracy theories.

I’m back here again, it happened again (slainte); and (unrelatedly) the obviously Irish DJ put on this Mary Black song which took me back more than 30 years, three or four lifetimes ago

NYC is home to 43% of NY State's population. Its budget is nearly as big as the state’s, and its forward-looking climate policies — like Local Law 97, to cut building emissions — play a major part in our state's climate action.

It’s refreshing to elect a leader who recognizes climate change is real, that its impact falls disproportionately on vulnerable communities, & that our government needs to take urgent action to protect all of us from extreme weather, pollution, and other environmental dangers.

Do what I did: go to the polls today, bring a friend who wouldn’t bother voting on their own, and give them a piece of paper reading

MAYOR: Mamdani (for obvious reasons)
AG: Bragg (Maron is a transphobe)
PROPS 2-5: yes

If one more 50 year old Jewish friend who lives in, like, LOS ANGELES makes a crack about how everyone is going to FLEE New York City when a guy that hundreds of thousands of Jews voted for is elected mayor I am going to LOSE IT

God willing I (age 59) will live long enough to see Pam Bondi thrown in prison for the rest of her life
After yelling and obfuscating to senators for hours, Dick Durbin hit her with this one: "Eventually you are going to have to answer for your conduct in this. You won't do it today, but eventually you will." Suddenly, she went SILENT.🔥 She knows.

You're phucked, Pam....just sayin'

the strategy to deter blue state incursions of federal troops is to promise, repeatedly, that when you are in power you will prosecute everyone involved, starting with top officials and going down to troops on the ground.
So far today, Chuck Schumer has said his strategy for preventing Trump sending troops into blue cities is to win over Republican senators (!) while Hakeem Jeffries praised Eric Adams's courage and authenticity (!!) while refusing to endorse Mamdani. Again.

These two gotta go.

Last night I was scrolling thru the “updates on the Trump administration” NYT page with the blog type reporter updates and… it was just one batshit crazy unilateral move after another, the only common thread is “blow everything up“

Coming back from this will take 20 years
