I narrated this week’s episode of Fiona and Cake (it streams Thursday)!

I noticed @kumail.bsky.social on the cast list on the script and I have to admit that I peed a little.

Anyway, congrats on the nom!!!
I’m nominated for a Golden Globe! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the nomination for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. I know none of you have seen Night Thoughts because, well, it's not out yet. But that all changes on 12/19. Very excited to (almost) finally share it with you.

Working on that effort were two former industry insiders, who are now top EPA officials. Industry lobbyists have long pushed the federal government to adopt a less stringent approach to gauging the cancer risk from chemicals, one that would help ease regulations on companies that make or use them.

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

I've always thought that the whole "natural immunity is the best way to protect people" thing was a bit like saying "getting pregnant is the best form of birth control."

Anyway, cool to see it's better for the immune system to see vaccine before virus from an effectiveness standpoint too.
A study on 1.7 million people in Hong Kong shows superior hybrid immunity to Covid in people who got vaccinated before infection vs. people who got infected first. "Our findings are a direct rebuttal to arguments for natural immunity," the authors write. doi.org/10.1016/j.va...

We also need universal healthcare yesterday with full vision, mental, hearing, and dental coverage. But as we strive to reach that, the least we can do is not use shoddy AI to determine our survival.

This is a perfect example as to why we need AI regulation yesterday.

AI cannot be the arbiter of whether human beings can live or die. This is an excuse for insurance companies to fire human workers and make our healthcare system even more nightmarish for a quick buck.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:

Tolerating these bad faith parlor games, devoid of an attachment to actual history or the plain meaning of words, as paths to elite success in legal academia & the federal judiciary was a grave mistake. We need to stop doing that & never do it again.
During ratification of the 14th Amendment, senators discussed whether the Citizenship Clause would apply to the children of immigrants and resoundingly concluded that it did. The text and history all point in one direction and the counter-arguments are patently fraudulent. I am going to lose my mind
The evidence is the text. All you have to do is read the Constitution.

Anyone who says “be normal” betrays that they have an implicit value system of who is considered normal and who is not, and when you have that, you will always value some people and traits over another. They will always replicate hierarchies of power in the long run.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that the Democratic Party needed to be “more culturally normal” and “less judgmental.”
