James Carville, in his NYT Op-ed, says it's time for Democrats to "embrace a sweeping, aggressive, unvarnished, unapologetic, and altogether unmistakable platform of pure economic rage. The most populist platform since the Great Depression."

I can dig it.

Earlier I distinguished the difference between socialism & social democracies (nordic capitalism). Someone asked me why socialism is bad.

In good faith I answered with this thread: 🧵👇

Then they blocked me. 🥸

I wonder if this was a block-worthy assessment of socialism. 🤷‍♀️

Today on Volts: I've had more requests to cover this than almost any other topic in the pod's history, so now, at long last, balcony solar! We dig into how "plug-in solar" took off in Europe & how it's making its way to the US, starting in Utah. Backyard DIY types rejoice!
What's the deal with balcony solar?
Cora Stryker joins me to explain how "plug-in" solar took Europe by storm and is finally, via Utah (?), making its way to America.

Next it will be naturalized citizens (my husband). Then American-born dual citizens (my kids). No, that's not legal. Neither is this.
I need everybody to read this and understand what’s going on. These are spouses of US citizens in the country legally. They have entry clearance and green cards, they’ve passed background checks and have no criminal records. ICE is taking them anyway.

Obv it's good that journalists can make money outside of the legacy system that has been crumbling and decaying for decades, but it does like a problem that there are essentially no ethical guardrails on that new paradigm
"I am withholding the most 'consequential, and newsworthy events' about both my ex and me potentially helping swing presidential elections and upending American public health in order to sell more newsletters" is a hell of an argument

People hugely underestimate how much transportation affects them except in these moments where a bunch of people are about to get it that didn’t before. Transportation is mobility and mobility is the spatial exercise of freedom.
Sounds funny today, but not long ago, the use of bicycles by women was considered *extremely* radical & dangerous--to be discouraged, even by supporters of women's right to vote.
All bc bicycles allowed women a tiny bit of freedom & mobility, without needing things a male guardian could withhold.
Suffragist and educator Frances Willard riding her bicycle, Gladys (because it made her glad).

“I learned to bicycle when 50... and I think it is one of the best things I ever did. What pleases me is to see other worn-out women take it up, and find a new lease of health and life thereby."
