Cars are part of the plan to keep the working class running on the hamster wheel. If we had reliable public transportation car manufacturers and oil companies would lose out on major profits and the lower 99% would stand a chance at catching their breath.

In the words of one of my statistics professors - correlation does not equal causation. Lots of things are correlated but one thing does not cause the other. Causation is much more difficult to prove.
