Nonetheless, I hope this work helps to chip away the popular conceptualization of the felony population as monolithic and instead encourages people to see those who have been involved with the criminal legal system as just as heterogenous--and frankly human--as the general population.

After all, this should make sense as with any other large group of people with some shared characteristic, the population of people with felony records is diverse and complex. In fact, we find some evidence that felony status may actually moderate partisanship and polarization.

...we don't find evidence that people with felony records overwhelmingly identify as Dems.

Although we do find that ppl with felony records are more likely to identify as Dems compared to the general population, demographics and local political context are considerably more salient.

We compare a survey of people with felony records, a demographically matched sample, and the CES to see whether perceived differences in turnout and partisanship are driven by felony status or demographics.

In short, although felony status appears to drive lower turnout (which makes sense)...

With Dixin Li* and @chrisuggen.bsky.social, we compare results from three national surveys fielded by YouGov right after the 2022 midterms.

* Dixin is a phenomenal PhD candidate who is currently on the market...so you should hire her!

No joke!
NEW: Data confirms WWE ticket prices have roughly doubled since TKO merger.

In terms of real dollars, a WWE ticket that used to cost about $60 pre-TKO is now about $120.

But average Raw & Smackdown attendance has yet to suffer. It's actually up.

I get that not admitting any responsibility is likely a choice to preserve the ability to appeal (e.g., admitting wrongdoing at sentencing can be used against him when he appeals). It's a catch 22 for sure that I've personally experienced.

But there are ways to thread the needle. This ain't it.

TBC I'm not making value judgements about how I think the judge is going to interpret this stuff, rather this is how I'm anticipating the judge reacts based on my experience observing judges at sentencing in serious cases (and also my own firsthand experience).
