NEW EP Immanuel Ness joins us to discuss migration's imperialist roots.

Far from being a net positive for the Global South, our system of migration under global capitalism contributes to underdevelopment, uneven and unequal exchange, and dependency of Global South countries.

america runs on americans believing that no matter how challenging things get here, that we still have it remarkably better than the rest of the world. if we knew what life was like in other countries the whole thing would be so much harder for them to manage

presenting a society that has a severe economic class division baked into it and then claiming that managing this severe divide through meager political rights is the only solution because some form of hierarchy is inevitable seems...not historically or logically sensible
robpertray.bsky.social
having hierarchical structures in society is not the same as structured class divisions around ownership. structuring strict hierarchy into the foundation of your society is a lot different than useful hierarchical divisions in specific limited situations
robpertray.bsky.social
we in the imperial core are deep within the belly of the leviathan watching (mostly) helplessly as all of our rights and meager protections are stripped away. and when it comes to our future, barbarism seems like a much more likely outcome than socialism

much of the world sees the US and the imperial bloc it leads as the great satan, and so it's clear that the ideological battle has already been lost. but the economic battle has been lost as well, and all the US has left are bribed masked agents at home and drug-addled special forces abroad
robpertray.bsky.social
but despite despite accounting for a whopping 80 percent of global military spending, the global south now outpaces the US and the G7 bloc in terms of economic output. and significantly, this is true even without China being included

and as he drowns there will be those servants still loyal to him, servants like UC Berkeley who just handed over the names of 160 professors and students to the Trump regime. servants like legacy media who will continue to self-censor in a vain hope of winning favor with a fascist
robpertray.bsky.social
but they are stretched too thin and are under too much pressure from the weight of their own rotten edifice collapsing onto them. the heavy hand of a billionaire drowning beside his yacht can do some damage to those around him for a time, but eventually he will drown
robpertray.bsky.social
but they are fighting a war on too many fronts—an ideological front that has focused on universities (this is why charlie kirk's death irked them so much), an informational front manned by armies of bots, and of course military fronts from the south china sea to the mediterranean to the carribean
robpertray.bsky.social
and like they themselves have admitted publicly, if Israel falls then the United States is next. they know that in this new decadent, dangerous stage of imperialism that all they have is psychopathic military might. a form of desperate self-preservation
robpertray.bsky.social
the free Palestine movement is the new communist boogeyman, and for one reason or another the new McCarthyists have put everything on the line with the genocide on gaza. they think that if they can pull it off then maybe their rotten system might not collapse after all
