I post things here that help you get the most from your Mac, other Apple devices and technology in general.
Mac tip from my Patreon video today:
You can use the new Spotlight in macOS Tahoe to find and trigger menu bar commands.
Just search for the menu bar item. Use Command+3 to narrow down the search to just actions and menu bar commands if you like.

🕗 Mac Tip:
You can customize the time and date that show in the Mac's menu bar.
Go to System Settings, Menu Bar and look for the Clock Options button.
You can decide which parts of the time and date are shown, choose an analog clock instead, and even have the time announced every 15 minutes.

Mac Tip:

↖ Did you know you can make the pointer (little arrow that you control with your mouse or trackpad) larger?
You can even change its color.
The settings for this are in System Settings, Accessibility, Display

Mac Tip:
If you like using Column view in the Mac Finder, did you notice that in macOS 26.1 there is a new setting that will make the columns automatically resize as you navigate?

WOW. 😮
Need a dose of irony today?
I'm working on a tutorial about iPhone Visual Intelligence.
Trying to show how to use it with a screenshot.
I invoke ChatGPT and it... um... gets it comically wrong.
If you don't know, the logo is from show in a sci-fi book about a "rogue" AI bot, not Star Wars.

Actually got some video of the aurora last night. I didn't realize it, but with my a7cr set to 1" exposure, when I took a video it used that 1" exposure and I got 2 minutes of that. Here it is sped up to 24fps. If I knew it would have turned out this good, I would have recorded longer.

My three best shots of the aurora from tonight taken with my a7cr. I got some great iPhone shots too. Can't believe it was this visible just outside of Denver.

I hate that people sometimes react to my videos on scams and security this way. They could be setting themselves up with this sort of over-confidence. Also, instead of just labeling victims as "stupid," try to help. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa4e...

Anyone else notice absolutely no change in macOS 26.1 when switching the new Liquid Glass setting from Clear to Tinted? I'm not talking about "the change is subtle," but they are exactly the same, no change at all?

I took this photo today with my iPhone and I like it.
No AI.
No adjustments.
Well, exactly 1 adjustment which you can probably figure out.

📝 Are you an English nerd like me?
❓ Know what has been hiding on your Mac all along?
📖 Launch the Dictionary app, then choose Go, Front/Back Matter.
(Switch to Dictionary mode if you need).
Now you've got things like the History of English, Clichés To Avoid, Key to Pronunciations and more! ✍️

🔍 You probably knew you could do math in Spotlight on a Mac.
But did you know it understands units?
You can add meters and cm.
You can work with meters per second.
It even converts, so you can add miles and km.
Works with currency too.

This ad on the back of a bus drove me absolutely crazy. Do you see it?

I made a "Just Answer the Question" Shortcut as an example for an upcoming MacMost video. But I'm actually using it. I hate it when a headline has a question that could easily be answer in the headline itself.

macOS Tahoe lets us easily add emoji to our folder icons.
But Apple didn't really show that many examples.
Here are some ideas to get you started:

💻 Mac Tip
Ever want to “Save As” but can’t find that menu command anymore?
It is there in most apps, just hidden.
Hold the Option ⌥ key down when viewing the File menu.
"Duplicate" will change to "Save As..."

📲 iPhone tip 👉
When marking up a PDF or image in Preview, Photos or any other markup situation, you can use the drawing tools to draw perfect shapes by holding for a second at the end.

Here's a better comparison. I used 48MP RAW on both the 15 Pro Max and 17 Pro Max. But with the telephoto lens it only results in a 4032x3024 image in both cases. But you can see how much further the 17 Pro zooms in, and how much more detail it captures. #iPhone

Just setting up my new iPhone 17 Pro Max and here is my first photo comparison between the 5X telephoto of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the 8X telephoto of the 17 Pro Max. #iPhone

Interesting use for Siri with AI today. Not sure if it would have worked in Sequoia, but with Tahoe I just asked Siri to identify the color of paint with a photo of the label open in the Photos app. It asked ChatGPT and in a few seconds I got exactly what I wanted.
