I had to go back into the depths of WIPs I haven't worked on in over 5 years to find it, but I have dungeon. I was curious whether I would and found it exactly once in the 5 manuscripts I checked.

This is a Bloodborne-inspired epic fantasy I hope to one day finish.

“Come, now, Helem. Walk with me.”
The woman steered Helem out of the room. It seemed like some kind of dungeon they had been in, but it was hard to tell.
“What is this place? Is it the keep?”
“We are in a heavily fortified area. It’s not quite the keep, but we are safe here. We run everything from here.”
“So, like a base camp?”
“Yes. Like a base camp.”
“I saw the monsters here. The same ones we have. I thought we were the only ones…”
“No. You’re not the only ones. We are on the verge of ending it, and that’s why Rafi went to your world. On a scouting mission. But that has failed now. Perhaps you will have some of the information that we need.”
“I will offer you whatever information that I can.”
“We can talk about that later, my dear. You won’t be able to leave for a while anyway. That jump would have taken such a toll on your body. It’s really a wonder you’re alive.”
Helem stopped in her tracks, startling the woman whose arms were still around her and also bringing her to a halt.
“What is it, dear?”
“You said, leave? I will be able to go back home?” Hope swelled in Helem’s chest at the mention of home.

I do try to alternate who gets the last one, but Francis is a super slow eater so he misses out the most. And he’s too smart for his own good about most things. Which makes me think he KNOWS 😬💀

Sometimes I really hope that my cats can’t count because I feel really bad when there’s an uneven number of treats in the package and I try to sneak the last one to one of them while another is finishing eating but then the left out cat looks around like “hey they got four. Where’s my fourth?” 😭😂

It’s easy to hide from those emotions when he’s thousands of miles away, but not when he’s right in front of me. Not when the piece of me that’s been missing suddenly feels whole again.

I lost my best girl. My sassy green eyed lady. She chose me in 2009 when I was still in college & got me through the rest of my 20s & most of my 30s. Highest highs & lowest lows. Over 16 years, but she was much older.

There will always be an Evy-shaped hole in my heart.
