Thank you Mark, that's very kind! Our Rotherham film is here on YouTube for those who missed the conference screening :)

It's a much more hopeful film than the flare-y still suggests...

Hearing this I feel the world has slipped a little off its axis, and then I think somewhere in the In Our Time archive there is probably an entire episode dedicated to this concept scientifically, philosophically or both.

Melvyn Bragg has decided to stand down as host of In Our Time, the BBC says.

When our politics is so horrible and broken, a very classy & human response from @eddavey.libdems.org.uk to Angela Rayner's statement.

"As a parent of a disabled child, I know the thing my wife and I worry most about is our son’s care after we have gone..."

Remember the plausible fascist Viv Rook's 'Erstwhile sites' from the brilliant drama Years and Years?

And then have a listen to what Kemi Badenoch is proposing.

Years and Years was supposed to be a warning, not a manifesto.

“I said if something doesn’t change, there will be civil disorder in this country,” Sacha Bedding tells @roswynnejones.bsky.social, reflecting on last year's riots.

"In order to fix the foundations of our democracy, we must act boldly and do things differently."

'I predicted the last riots and we're on brink again - but we can stop them'

Once again the Telegraph is shaming itself with its reporting of the hotels issue, now in Epping.
Absolute disgrace.
Headline should be 'I'm not Tommy Robinson but...'

No-one wants to see piles of rubbish on the street - especially not binmen - but listen to Adrian and ask yourself if his colleagues are right to take strike action?

The vilification of Adrian and his colleagues is a tactic as old as the hills.
roswynnejones.bsky.social
Bin worker Adrian was told he was getting 'downgraded' - a paycut of £6k - just weeks after losing his son to sepsis.

Now he fears losing his home.

“It could put me and my family out on the street," he says.

“How can you just wake up one morning and lose £500 a month?"

Every one of the betrayed Afghans is owed a British passport.

But instead of a thank you – the communities they were dispersed into faced petrol bombs, screaming crowds and their accommodation being set on fire in last summer’s riots.

What a welcome.

'Every Afghan hero deserves a UK passport. This country has failed them'
Today, the super-injunction protecting the story behind thousands of Afghans’ secret evacuation has ended. And it is time to thank them for their service

I dunno. I get a bit tired of the 'I'm Doing A Hard-Hitting Interview' klaxon. O'Donaghue got something different out of him. Time to go back to the Rottweiler tho now.
roswynnejones.bsky.social
Been thinking all day about Gary O’Donoghue’s lovely interview with Trump - it's got a dreamy intimacy like Trump has phoned into a late night call-in radio show from his couch in his slippers, his voice thick with McDonalds milkshake and regret.

I wrote something about Kemi Badenoch's charmless display of playground bullying at PMQs today - and how Parliament needs to change.
Rachel Reeves is the Chancellor of the Exchequer. She's also a human being like the rest of us.
www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...
Bullying isn't banter - Badenoch's PMQs attack on Rachel Reeves crosses a line
Politics is a brutal business but Kemi Badenoch baiting a visibly upset Rachel Reeves at PMQs is just yet another example of the dehumanisation of people in public life

This year I saw 20+ acts - folk, techno, hiphop, silly, iconic, disco, indie, punk and 3x LeftField chats on Far Right, disability cuts & care crisis.
Loyle Carner to Luke Una, Scissor Sisters to Self Esteem, Pulp to Prodigy, Bragg to Boy Slim, it was all bloody joyous.

There is no place for hate at #Glastonbury, but there were 3,000 performances on 100 stages seen by 210k people, across 900-acre site of which 1 caused controversy.
Yes it's got more posh, but 1k workers, 2k lovely volunteers & 10k stall holders also a huge part of the festival.
