In the last third of the 19th century, major technological changes transformed the world of small arms. The invention of bolt-action rifles and, more importantly, smokeless powder meant that governments had to adopt new military rifle models to avoid falling behind in the arms race.

The next person from our team we would like to present is Assumpta Castillo Cañiz! She earned her PhD from the University of Padova in 2021 with a dissertation on political violence and armed associations in pre-World War I Europe, as part of the ERC project “The Dark Side of the Belle Époque”.

A rifle’s journey often extends far beyond the battlefield it was built for.

🇮🇹 Pour tout comprendre à la construction après 1861 des territoires de police au sein du nouvel État italien, entre révoltes siciliennes et naissance de la mafia, foncez le commander dans toute bonne bibliothèque de ce côté-ci des Alpes! 🇮🇹

Le thème "exilés, réfugiés, étrangers en France" fait l'objet d'un colloque, organisé à Pau par Laurent Dornel et @delphinediaz.bsky.social, avec possibilité de le suivre à distance pour les étudiant-e-s qui explorent cette question !

Très réussi ! Peut-être faudrait il juste préciser que la 4e section des RG (que j'ai étudiée durant ma thèse) est, elle aussi, un service de la PP parisienne, limité donc à la Seine. Pour l'échelle nationale, un bureau est dédié aux étrangers à la Sûreté générale du ministère de l'intérieur.
