As a patient at the Royal Free Hospital, visits from a therapy dog comforted Fraser. He wanted to return with his dog Hugo to help others.

When Fraser died and was unable to fulfil his wish, his wife Catrina continued her late husband’s legacy with Hugo at Chase Farm Hospital.

A bit of comfort goes a long way.

Thanks to our new shop trolley, patients unable to leave their bed at the Royal Free Hospital can get a healthy snack or their favourite treat, right from their bedside.

This sense of normality makes a difference to a patient’s stay in hospital!

We’re incredibly proud of her journey from volunteering on the wards to a career in healthcare.

Thank you David, for 55 extraordinary years. Your voice will always be a part of Royal Free Radio.

Though stepping back from the mic, David remains chairman of Royal Free Radio, keeping one foot in the door at the station.
royalfreecharity.org
Looking back on his favourite memory from radio, David said: “We had a whole ward singing ‘Tulips from Amsterdam’ once; they phoned in from what was then the telephone trolley and they had the whole ward singing it. We got told off by the matron for causing a disturbance, but it was good fun!”
royalfreecharity.org
Radio has always been close to David’s heart - not just through his decades of volunteering, but personally too. He met his wife through the station and now their daughter proudly continues the legacy with a show of her own.
royalfreecharity.org
The station changed drastically through those years, from vinyl to computer software, cupboard to recording studio, but what remained was David’s dedication, being a warm instantly recognisable voice to those most vulnerable in care.
royalfreecharity.org
Looking back on the beginning, David said: “When we started, the country was still using pounds, shillings and pence, The Beatles had just broken up, ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ by Simon and Garfunkel was a new release and it would be four years before anyone had heard of ABBA.”
