The typhoon here in Hong Kong is slowly stripping the nylon mesh off the buildings under repair. Just hope the scaffolding doesn’t go next! Lots of debris flying through the air - leaves, paper, mesh strips - but so far no loose pipes of bamboo!

Calling all Inner West Sydney pub folk - if you're a fan of the Henson Hotel being pokie free, turn up to the Henson tomorrow and protest their sneaky decision to bring back poker machines - seriously guys? Albo's favourite local pub advertised as 'proudly pokie free' for how many years now??

She local kids just pulled this out of the Shing Mun River. Creating quite a stir

Good to have a moment by the river to think - crossroads sign seems apt for general life and times right now

Sha Tin Looks like a post card this morning

The HK urban form is uniquely devoted to elevated walkway to get across the streets - though I’m not sure what this does.

World’s longest elevated lawn bowls strip?

Looks like it should be a beautiful dawn, but it’s the prelude to a big increase in humidity and heat. Last week I had the heater on, now I’m sweating in a t-shirt! What happened to spring, HK??? And now for 6 months of air con 😞

Watching the clouds creep over the hills and seep into Sha Tin this afternoon like a slow white river, very pleasant

I love the crazy looking bamboo scaffolding they cover the buildings with here in HK when they’re retrofitting them 😊

Love this picture … feels like the world right now

Out for a run in Sha Tin. I don’t know why they’ve put colourful neon light shapes up on the bridge, but, combined with endorphins, it’s working for me.

Hi everyone.

We are looking for participants for a study we're doing on how parents and families cope with climate anxiety and disasters. We're after any parents who would like to talk to us living in Australia, in NSW, QLD, or the ACT.

Use the QR code for more info and feel free to share 👍

More HK street life. An increasingly familiar picture the world over - buzzing tourism and cosmopolitanism rubbing shoulders with homelessness

More Sunday turtles
February 16, 2025 at 4:19 AM
My god, I’ve only today realised that turtle stacking is a real thing!

This is from the pond in Hong Kong park on a lovely sunny Sunday 😊

Lantau Island - seems moody today.
February 15, 2025 at 5:22 AM
Took the ferry out to Lantau Island this morning, great to get up in the mountains where it’s green and quiet - so different from Hong Kong Bustle.

Professor Louise Ryan coming by to visit us at HKBU - some great ideas about migration research to follow 👍

Wandered into a festival at the Che King temple near Tai Wai. That’s a lot of red and yellow happiness on sale! Smoke everywhere- thousands of incense candles burning for good wishes and luck

Monkeys in Fo Tan. Not every blue sky day you can walk out of your apartment and see monkeys having a good frolic in the local trees
