Sorry for doom-posting or whatever - between what's been happening in Gaza & Ukraine, the US & LA, and the (once again) growing radical right in Europe, it all feels just a tad bleak politically atm.

How you go about breaking that, I don't know. Voters seem to not know what they want on many issues anymore and, far from wanting to hold politicians to account, seem to desperately want to be led in whatever direction allows them to (a) maintain vaguely comfortable, or (b) stagnate/decline softly.

Honestly don’t know how the US (and indeed, a whole host of other nations where this sentiment exists) can deal w. this; I want to say “create a positive vision for immigration & shy away from the rhetoric” but I’ve become much more cynical/doubtful about whether that works

It is hard to grasp but large masses of Americans are both racist/xenophobic AND not racist/xenophobic enough to applaud what Trump is doing. It's goldilocks shit, they want a level of racism/xenophobia calibrated exactly to their personal preferences, and you just can't make that policy. Don't try.

Basically, they are both too racist & not racist enough to back Trump fully; for whatever reason, people still think he’s both just the guy from the Apprentice and yet also a messiah whose business “expertise” or whatever will help “save America”

This feels a little bit beyond trolling at this point and, even if he still doesn’t actually intend to invade, Trump needs to be put in his place at this point.
